Re: Weather
Cheers Ian I will give that a go. Trip to get some new fuel as what I have is at least six months old.

I got wrapped up to go for an appointment with the nurse thinking it would be cold in the wind but it’s quite warm. By the time I took muttly for his walk it’s turning into a nice bright morning. He was a bit skittish because of the wind.

Re: Weather
Stale petrol is a real problem, especially in lawn mowers etc. We had a local small engine guy who was obsessional re the additive you can get to keep it over winter.
Easy start is, unfortunately not a good option. It will get the thing going but deglazes the bores and compression is lost. Engines become "addicted to it for that reason....

Re: Weather
It was wet weather when I drained out all the old fuel (6 months old) changed the oil and fitted a new (decent) spark plug. Replaced fuel with E5 posh stuff. The b*gger started second pull so old fuel it was, another lesson learned!
Quick bath then death in paradise is calling, I reckon Sophie has framed the Inspector somehow.

Re: Weather
E5 is 95% petrol, E 10 is only 90%, so in terms of flammability I'd guess that E5 is best, recommended for virtually all small engines anyway. The 5% and 10% difference is ethanol, aka food!!
Proper non greeniot petrol would, of course, be even better!!!

Have you heard about the spin off series, GH? It’s set in a fictional Devon town but filmed in Looe, Cornwall. Have they no idea the River Tamar separates the two counties?groundhog wrote:It was wet weather when I drained out all the old fuel (6 months old) changed the oil and fitted a new (decent) spark plug. Looking forward to it, guess it is because there is so little to offer the other side of the Tamar. As long as they remember jam first should be ok though,

Re: Weather
Forecast for yesterday was way off, we had a decent sunny day with a moderate breeze so we got a washing hung out and dried. Plenty of rain overnight, still dull but it's dry just now. Mild too at 9°c but we'll get more wet stuff later.
Take care folks

Re: Weather
2degrees, sunny with fresh snow on near hills
Last day of Sunshine on Leith, matinee at 2.30 and last show at 7.30. Really enjoyed this, probably 15 years since I last played for a show, string sections were replaced by extra keyboard as cost saving.
Need to keep energy up today so square sausage and tattie scone on a roll with mug of builders tea for breakfast...lovely

Re: Weather
Sorry to come late to this. I also endured years of struggling to start mower / chainsaw etc at start of new season. But then discovered Aspen. Synthetic fuel. Sold in 1 litre bottles. One for 4 stroke and one for 2 stroke.groundhog wrote:It was wet weather when I drained out all the old fuel (6 months old) changed the oil and fitted a new (decent) spark plug. So at end of season I run mower so that it runs out of fuel after the final cut; then put in a cupful or so of Aspen; start engine and run for a minute or so, and stop.
Next season, it starts easily. Aspen doesn't degrade for about 4 years.
Works for me..

Re: Weather
12 degrees and a few spots of rain about, back outside to carry on the good work, probably about a weeks worth of pressure washing to do but this Wilks machine is much faster than my old one which was bigger and heavier. Interesting about the Aspen , thanks Cymro, mowing is a 12 month task down here but good to know about.
Bb good luck with the final show, hope it all goes well.
Had eggs on toast for tea last night Boaby, very nice for a change as you say.
Have a great day all

That’s useful info re Aspen, Cymro. Their website has a supplier location finder and there are even a few down this way.

Colder up here this morning, only 4°c but drying out after a wet day yesterday. Forecast suggests it should stay dry and breezy. Out for the Sunday papers and then I'll be stuck in my chair

Re: Weather
2degrees but still and calm. Was a threat of sleet or snow last night but only had rain in early evening. Dry by time I drove back from Arbroath after final Sunshine on Leith show. Good fun and great success. I took the WXL through and retired to it after matinee for comfortable break and some food. Cheque for my services in the band will pay for a couple of tanks of diesel for the WXL
Quiet day ahead then back to orchestral rehearsals tomorrow night for next concert in March
