Overcast this morning in Cornwall, but here is a lovely picture just sent to me by our daughter, taken from the flight deck of a Boeing 787 dreamliner belonging to Canadian airline Westjet somewhere over the East coast of the UK at the time!Weather - Page 23 Img_0410

Nice photo Groundhog  up!

Phew wot a scorcher, at last we can sit out in some heat. Sadly it came at a cost, I was forced to get up a ladder to fix a leaky cast iron gutter. After cleaning it and giving it some TLC with a wire brush, it got a coat of bitumen paint. So far so good, except some stray drips got onto our living room window. It then took longer to sort that than do the repair job I was (foolishly) tasked with. I'm now in moderate discomfort which may require a beer or three to sort. The second coat of paint  may not happen until Monday(ish)  biggrin

No swallows here yet, but that's not unusual. There are not so many of the old buildings around here that they used to use as nest sites. Householders are less tolerant of them nesting on their property.

Clear blue sky here this morning and warm sunshine. Great day for giving the gutter its second coat of paint, whilst hooking a charger up to sort the flat battery in my car  shrugg

Swallows and Swifts zooming up and down the village street in Cormeilles and Blangy-Le- Chateau in Normandy,I will miss them this year and in the outbuildings, still they will have it to themselves and look forward to getting back soon.

Look after it for us.

Used to bag my first Swallow in late March flying along the shore at the Kyles of Bute.
Delighted to see my first house Martin around 10.30 a.m, bugs must be low as the Martin was skimming to roof tops.

Another fine sunny morning. Over the last couple of days we've an unusual visitor to one of our bird tables, a field mouse! I went out and asked it nicely to leave but it was extremely reluctant. Eventually, after a bit of persuasion, it made a heroic leap (the table is about 5ft high) into the bushes  wave I have no problem if it wants to stay in our garden, but woe betide should it stray into our basement. It's a very dangerous place for meeces  snigger

Reminds me of our first night in Greece when a Skops owl started his electronic bleeping on the van roof as we were trying to sleep.  It was new and different at first but the novelty soon wore off and I went outside to shoo it off. This didn't work as its mate joined it and the pair of them went on on and on for hours.

Another bright sunny day here with promises to be warm later. The chilly breeze was supposed to drop today but it clearly hasn't read the weather forecast.

Beautiful pre-dawn chorus, really nice sunrise over the bay, looks like a BBQ could be in the offering.
Makes one glad to be fit and well.

Misty before dawn, soon burnt of, turned into a really nice sunny morning,no wind.
Local garden birds must be on eggs, nest building seems have slowed down.
Have a nice day.

Weird over here. It's supposed to have been raining since 10am, but it's hazy bright and I'd say verging on 20 deg., not the 15 deg the forecast says.

Our Mavis deserted the nest in our dead cotoneaster bush about a week ago. No sign of either parent bird 'til yesterday lunchtime when there was a cacophony in the garden. One mistle thrush on top of the flowering cherry giving out their warning cackle and another on our neighbours TV aerial. All of a sudden the one on the aerial swooped down to a small tree out in our close and the other one joined it, both cackling like mad. The cause of their ire, a marauding magpie that launched itself into the tree.

I suspect they had a second nest there and the magpie has done for the eggs or baby thrushes.

Later in the afternoon both thrushes were very evident flying around our garden again.

The last couple of days have had a very light breeze and so far today dead calm (showers forecast later) - Ideal weather for my smaller helicopters in the garden, I do wish we hadn't planted the plum tree in the middle 15 years ago!!

After a week of dry, sunny weather we've got some smirry rain. On the "you couldn't make it up" scale, this would be quite high. Our weekend newspapers are warning that some parts of Scotland are at risk of drought  scratch head

It's all this hand-washing that's to blame.

Half a dozen spots of rain here but I bet we'll miss the useful rain that's promised and have to water the garden.

We got our  water bill for the last 6 months recently. For the first time in years our consumption had increased. It's all the hand washing.
