Re: Gearbox jumps out of gear
I've just found the list I made in 2019 of those who did take motorhomes that were within my range. The first 3 are the only ones I have used. None are likely to be any good for you but they show that they are available:
Devizes
Basingstoke
Hamble
Dorchester
Poole
Swindon
Bristol
I have no experience of gearbox repairs but I doubt a main dealer will strip one down if that is what it needs. I think they are more likely to send the gearbox away to a specialist repairer.

A few on our site.
Maybe it's not just the size but weight as well that puts them off.?

I would say when it first started yes, but it might be my imagination as I have become fixated on the issue but it now gives a healthily thump out of gear which does bang your hand pretty hard….

Loads of good experience on their, I guarantee you’ll get a few comments and possibly solutions.
As others have said ..open the bonnet and you’ll see the linkage..give it a good dose of lubricant (thin machine oil) to start
It sounds like the 1st gear synchro ring may be struggling but maybe it’s just the linkage.
As an aside; don’t drive resting you hand on the gear stick, this puts strain on the synchro rings….secondly..you can if you’re careful pull off from very low speeds in second….it might just protect that1st gear a little until you get it correctly diagnosed.

Given your extensive knowledge, which I think is very much respective on this forum ? could you not Channel this by supporting the OP instead of berating those trying to help with demeaning statements of Jack and Jill storylines.
Just my personal observation …
PS .. Welcome to be shot down if I’m out of order

I am sorry if you don’t like what the people in the trade call this ref a jack and Jill story .I have not used words that the forum rules say cant be used that is used by people in the trade
To many post are posted by this person and are to no help lots will just cost people more money
Do I want to save people money YES
On another post Caraman said based on his experience before and after the solar mod but charged on the mains so did not test for 3 months on just 1 x80w panel now he gives another good story BUT to no help again and will again cost people money IF they think this is true .
I can show people that in the winter not many days will the panel even get to 12volts to start to give charge so clearly no help again
There have been some very good post from people that did have a great skill to help and save people money but no longer do
I do still talk to some and have been told the reason they no longer post here .I have said please please you had been a great help on the forum and I can see you have got a good skill and a person I would say people could trust
People putting incorrect and poor information is what needs to be stopped as is no help and lots of the time will cost people lots of money
It’s hard to help when you then get the people that are just putting another incorrect story then stops the people that would have helped
To many post are not trying to help if that was correct would read it first and say is this a help or are they just trying to look good
Suppersready i have no problem with what you have said
From what has been said on this post 2 other people have said things that would help but most others are clearly to no help

Glyn,
As I have already stated I am not questioning your knowledge, neither your intentions to help or save people money. I just feel that the feedback you give could be a little more positive. However if you and people you mention are happy then
maybe I should have kept my views to myself
My post used the word respective … of course I meant respected.

Re: Gearbox jumps out of gear
I have this morning taken the van to an independent commercial garage in Kent who seemed to understand that I would like a proper diagnosis of the issue before they dive in and drop the gearbox.
The place was massive - at 3.5 tonnes and 8m we were definitely the smallest vehicle in the forecourt....
I'll update this topic as to what happens - in the meantime, please all try to play nice...

Highly recommended, these guys really know manual gearboxes, one extra good bit, your job is allocated to just one, of several, mechanics, they have your phone number and you know their name so comms between you, if required are easy...
For example, mine, initially went in for diff bearings, he called me and asked if I'd like anything else done whilst here.. I said definitely, please change all the bearings while you have it, only cost a few pounds more, great service...

Re: Gearbox jumps out of gear
Box dropped - collected by the gear box repair place - their update today;
The gearbox is in the process of being stripped. So far in the notes I can see that the pinion shaft has sustained damage, which does not usually form part of a recondition. I'll see what I can do to include it in the initial quote though. The 1st & 2nd hub is also damages, along with reverse & 1st synchros.
I guess that’s full price then!

Oddly in my opinion - the garage dropping the box gave to the gearbox people. Eventually the gearbox people have told me the box is rebuilt and to pay them for that work. Then after receiving payment they’ll send back to garage for them to put back on the van.
Paid them £2000 now waiting to hear from the garage…. Who I’ll be paying separately.
Bit surprised garage didn’t just charge me at the end for the whole lot…
