2021 Broadway EL Empty 2021 Broadway EL

Post by Buddyboxer Sun Aug 22, 2021 3:44 am

We are in the process of buying a new Broadway El and are concerned to discover that the back wall of the shower enclosure is finished in a laminated wood grain material and not a white plastic panel. No others I have seen for sale on line, or in any reviews have this faux wooden finish.

Has anyone on the forum purchased this model?

The dealership are as yet not able to provide me with a satisfactory answer as to the suitability of this material as a shower wall.

Auto-Sleepers wouldn’t finish it this way unless they were completely confident in doing so, think you are worrying unnecessarily.

Would you not be concerned that you are buying what appears to be only Broadway EL for sale that has this finish?

Looking at the online brochure,  it looks like the entire washroom has this wood finish on all walls, so I would presume it's a plastic laminate finish, even the bathroom cabinet is finished in the same surface. What makes you think yours is the only one?

Sorry, it's not the same in ours. All other bathroom photos show all wall panels the same as behind the cassette toilet. Ours has the back showerwall in the same finish as lounge cupboards.

I took the screenshot below from a 2021 Broadway EL on Nick Whale’s site so can see what you mean. It does seem an odd choice for a shower room finish, from an aesthetic viewpoint alone.

I can see why you’re looking for reassurance, since a wood-effect finish seems counter intuitive in a wet environment. However, AS use a range of shower wall finishes and they aren’t all solid plastic. Two of the walls in our Kemerton’s shower are laminated chipboard with a vinyl covering, and many vans have the same finish. We use the shower regularly without any problem. I’m also not aware of shower surface issues being reported on here.

Thanks Tim, I am glad you can see why I am concerned with this anomaly!
The screen shot you took is of the exact van. The finish in your Kemerton  shower sounds very similar to what we have in our Winchcombe.
I hope to hear from AS tomorrow via the dealer with reassurance.

My guess is that they ran out of materials and used a substitute. There seems to be a shortage of just about everything these days.

No not really, if that’s how Auto-Sleepers do them why would I? They aren’t going to build them like that if it’s going to cause them the headache of recalls a few months down the line, if they are happy to make them this way they are obviously confident in them. Personally I’d be more concerned about the thickness and quality of the bathroom plastics.
