Reported on BBC, how well Greece is doing in these hard times and how they got everything so right.

What they didn't mention of course is less than 1% of the population is of ethnic origin who seem to be sadly worst effected. Those that remain are spread across many Islands with low populations with only Athens, Thessalonika and arguably Patras being areas of large conurbation. What do you expect then. The Isles of Scilly has a zero rate for deaths I wonder why? Let's have the full facts please not just another irrelevant story!

I have always hated the press and never thought they could get worse....

There, I feel better now. frustrating

a little like the bbc news yesterday on radio,
went a little like this,
retail sales crash to the lowest level...since records began...!!!!???

The " shops are closed" !! and have been for over four weeks. What sort of headline news is that?
next they will be telling us " car sales are the lowest since 1941"
you don't say!!

let me fill in between the lines.
garage sales for courts are closed.
you can't drive anywhere.
you can't walk non essentially.
we all won't have enough money left to buy a new car.
companies are closed and company cars not high on their agenda .
no one is building new cars

but the news will " inform" us of the breaking news.

If the media were serious about informing the public on the COVID-19 situation, they would use their science/medicine correspondents to ask intelligent questions at the press conferences and conduct interviews.  Instead, they send their egotistical political hacks who only know how to ask dopey gotcha questions and then impose their own biased views on their 'analysis' instead of sticking to reporting facts.

I resemble that Hog. I confess I am just as guilty as she is, but I blame my Vale of Asum accent.

("Where's Asum?" I hear you cry. It's where the Archers and all the sparrow grass comes from.  up!)

Watching the lady taking the briefing tonight I did think, "Don't mess with Priti Patel!uncertain She was getting a bit irritated by the usual raft of repetitive and puerile questions, and showed her teeth a couple of times.

She clearly doesn't suffer fools gladly, which is just what some of the hacks need when they try to score points at every opportunity.

What rattles me with reporters, particularly BBC is the dupicated questions asked by a) national and b) regional reporters why do they need 2 or more all the time.   I feel they could save thousands by rationalising their staff.    And are they ALL really essential workers ?

Roll spot on.....and you get an explanation from the studio newsreader as to what has happened which is then virtually repeated by the reporter on the spot adding nothing of substance. Oh and if I see that clip of the nurse being helped on with her protective clothing again I will scream. Exactly the same clip every time.

Even more irritating is when the presenter asks their "chief political correspondent" what the minister is likely to say during the briefing . . . less than five minutes before it is due to begin!!

Lord, give me strength!!!

Tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em

Tell 'em

Tell 'em what you told 'em

It's all part of a communications strategy because some people never get the message first, or second time.

As to regional reporters, they can be very handy when your UK reporters are all London based. As far as national (as in nations) reporters are concerned we should respect the desire for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to have their own sources and their individual views. Anything else just smacks of English overbearing exceptionalism. There is a real need for us English to see ourselves as others see us.

And while we're having a good whinge, what's with the fairly recent must-use phrase, "Person of colour." ?

If that's not considered offensive, then neither is "coloured person" since there's absolutely no difference other than rather pathetic semantics - and pose worthiness of course!!

We are, of course, all of one sort of ethnicity or another.

BAME had me confused at first and I would think that parts of Greece have plenty of BAME people, given all the refugees from Syria, Afghanistan etc.

There again, if they showed masses of different people donning PPE they'd be criticized for not social distancing enough and wasting NHS time by filming.

Did you notice on Fridays update that there was not one single question or comment about PPE after weeks of constant reference to it. Also none of the reporters were given the opportunity to  come back for a follow-up question. Makes me think they are all rehearsed as to what the questions will be and reporters told what they cannot ask.

Then there's the sports section.
'And now over to our sports correspondent'.. Yes, they're all still there to tell us what isn't on.
I'm willing to bet not one of them has been furloughed..

What I posted was less than 1% of the population is of the ethnic origin who seem to be sadly worst effected, the inference I thought being clear, however, my command of the English language clearly falls short.

The point I am making is you cannot compare Halkidiki with Huddersfield or Skiathos with Scunthorpe the demographics are completely different. At least make a story balanced and complete.

Let's get back to reporters

I wonder how many of the presenters look at the auto cue and think "Have I really got to say that"?

Ah! Well, the secret is to report on what's not happening in sport, who's not doing it, what they think about not doing it and when they think they might start doing it and if they'll be allowing a live audience when they do commence doing it. And, of course the debate about what should be done about the unfinished season that was brought to an abrupt halt.

One could argue that's perfectly legitimate, if boring reporting. However sports commentators, well that's an altogether different thing. They definitely should be furloughed, but maybe they're paid per game, in which case their income died 5 weeks ago.

I agree with most of the above and have felt for some time that the "News" should be renamed.
The majority of the time these 'reporters" are informing us of what could happen during the day, which I feel isn't news at all, it's guesswork.
And as such, they're not even reporting, so their name should be changed too!

No social distancing by photographers outside No.10 this morning for Boris's speech. All huddled together and shuffling for position.
