Dometic RMD 8555 Fridge Issue
A few months ago I noticed that if I had the fridge/freezer on it displayed a strobing effect on the control panel a sort while after powering it on.
I got some feedback to say it was possibly a mains fault so when I visited the van earler this week I did a complete 240 and 12V power shutdown and powered everything back on.
Powered the fridge on and no strobing!
After about 3 hours I check the fridge and no temperature drop and when I opened the freezer compartment I was hit in the face with a horrendous smell that caught the back of my throat and smarting eyes so slammed the freezer compartment door shut quickly and exited the van🥺.
My guess is a refrigerant leak in the freezer compartment?
Is this reparable or am I looking at a £1,100 2nd hand unit (fitted) or a £2,800 updated replacement + fitting?
Any thought or suggestion will be greatly received.

If it’s a refrigerant leak as you suspect it a new fridge I am afraid, open windows and door and deep breath , open fridge door and freezer door and let it all vent out of the van for a few hours , freon is a dangerous gas

If a new fridge there are plenty options well below even £1000.
Use search or members factsheets. Lots in there.

Maybe it's how I'm doing the search or my access permissions but I can only find two threads about 8555 and didn't see anything obvious when I looked through the fact sheets, what am I doing wrong?IanH wrote:If a new fridge there are plenty options well below even £1000.

Google motorhome 3 way fridges smad, all similar to this one
CHECK, then CHECK again all dimensions before buying....This one under £500 works fine on all 3 functions, and you gain a wee cupboard underneath it!
