unwanted sales and marketing calls
Hi,
How about a 'grump of the day', to keep things moving?
Today I am grumping (?) about the number of phone sales calls we get from 'foreign' parts, or better still the who ring and then don't speak when you answer the call.
What makes me mad is that we are on the TPS scheme which apparently doesn't apply to calls made from 'third party' callcentres, thanks for a really helpful service!

Totally agree Mike. If I had as many calls from customers as I have from these nuisances trying to sell me advertising, websites or directory entries, I'd be a very rich man. If I took all their offers, I'd be a very poor man.

The best revenge is to say "Can you hang on a moment" then return about 5-10 mins later to find they have hung off

I've noticed that one of the worst telesales 'offenders' is from the unlikely tel. no 0123456789, so far I have logged more than 5 different companies useing it.
Good advice keeping them hanging on, but use your 'secrecy' button if you have one, then they can't hear you cussing in the background!

They annoy Dot but I just see them as people trying to earn a living. I just politely tell them that I am not interested in what they are selling / taking part in their survey / competition and that I do not wish to be impolite but I am putting the phone down now.
I must admit though that the ones who I think are scammers, get the run-around, I either do as CC does or wind them up a bit.
The ones who are allegedly from Microsoft go quiet when they tell me that they have been getting reports back which definitely come from my computer, and I reply "which one - I have six?" or " I don't have a computer" or "I don't use windows I use Linux" or any combination of the above.

I too have a 'standard' reply when they ring, (just as i'm starting dinner) & tell me that my computer is riddled with life-threatening viruses, I wait untill
they've finnished then say, 'WOW' thanks for that, I get it sorted, then hang up

I can't imagine a worse job than working in telesales and having to deal with all those grumpy old ( I include myself )

I have found that if I tell them all calls are recorded for entertainment purposes, they generally hang up
