Toilet wash basin
The toilet basin in the shower/ toilet compartment in my 2011 nuevo has started to discolour and cannot be removed despite using all sorts of cleaners.
I have now ascertained that the gel coat applied to the surface is delaminating.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so is there a remedy.

GRP? WOW! I assumed they are all thermo-formed ABS.

I’m not sure what the basin is made from. It seems too flexible for fibre glass but I’m no expert.
The reason I mentioned that the discoloured gel was the problem was because it can be removed with a bit of elbow grease

ABS will change colour due to UV light over time, I have packs of 100 sheets & the outer ones have discolored, all inside the pack are still bright-white!

Re: Toilet wash basin
Are you sure it is delaminating, discolouration does not indicate that, it would normally have pimples and cracks if it is delaminating. Could you upload a photo?

Re: Toilet wash basin
Thanks groundhog and the other messages. I will upload a photo tomorrow.
Having read the reports I’m not sure it’s delaminating. The reason I used this adjective was because I can scrape the brown staining off with a coin , the residue removed is powdery and a bit gritty which I thought may have been gel coating.

I think you'll find YouTube videos using hydrogen peroxide. You could get [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to resurface it.

There was a bigger stain on the other side of the waste outlet which I scrapped off with a coin.

Re: Toilet wash basin
I think what you have scraped-off with a coin is the outer UV damaged surface of the ABS.
I have an old resin/ABS garden seat & it 'faded', it too would scrape-off, & I made a right old mess of it when I power-washed it, went all scabby.

Well the OP said delaminating, thermo formed ABS doesn't!modelman wrote:GRP? WOW! I assumed they are all thermo-formed ABS.
As an aside, and a GRP sink in our EribaCar MH, the sink was GRP and stained. Turns out the staining was caused by certain mouthwashes, something to be avoided in either ABS or GRP IMHO!

Re: Toilet wash basin
I can assure you it's thermo formed ABS. My 2007 Neuvo is discoloured as well, I've been thinking what to do to try to get it to try to whiten up a little.

Re: Toilet wash basin
I have used cif bathroom mousse on mine, spray it on, leave for three minutes and wipe it off, sometimes you have to give it a gentle rub but has worked for me over the past 15 tears without any problems.
P.S try at your own risk.lol
