We had a sparrowhawk in the garden this morning which sadly had taken a smaller bird (probably a blue tit) by our feeder, rather than one of the flock of fifty or so pigeons that roost on our chimney-breasts and crowstep gables, blocking the gutters with guano and sh!tting all over our patio as they take off.   so_sad

Fairly dreich here in the East Neuk, lots of heavy rain and some sleet, very cold but no lying snow yet - it's fairly unusual here as we have sea on three sides.

The Sparrowhawk has been pretty prolific taking small birds in and around our garden in the past but there's not so many about just now. It's the first time we've seen it take a pigeon, after nearly an hour, all that's left is a pile of feathers.

Looks like the edge of the miserable dark cloud we're under is just over the Welsh border. It should be a bit bright over your way Paul.

Reminds me of a sparrowhawk incident here a few years back. Around 7am there was an almighty bang against our study side window. I went out and it was like a pillow had burst. Feathers (pigeon feathers) everywhere, but no sign of a pigeon. What there was, about 4m from the house, was a dead sparrowhawk. Some birders I mentioned it to reckoned that the sparrowhawk had dived on the pigeon that was on the ground, but hadn't worked out his after strike trajectory and in rising away it had hit the window and killed itself. The pigeon had escaped but whether it flew away with so ma y feathers gone is debatable.

After a very rough and windy night courtesy of Storm Jorge , it's still blowing but a little calmer with the sun shining and a modicum of blue sky. A few daffodils are out just in time for St. David's Day.

Yes happy St David's day!

Showers in Falmouth today and fairly stiff breeze but out of the wind really warm in the sun. Packed the thermal covers until next winter now. up!

Not much chance to enjoy Dydd Gwyl Dewi as emptying a few inches of water from the garage...  No wonder our emblem is a Leak!  We had over 11" of rain lin February.

On our third day with next to no rain. A little frost this morning but it's clouding over so the temperature is rising again. Got over on Monday to see the van for the first time in 4 months (don't ask  Whistle1) and was relieved to find both batteries at 13.7v. As it was such a pleasant day I decided to take it for a shakedown run, thankfully the engine started on the first turn. Need to get the trip planning hat on now.

Got in van yesterday. Hab battery 13V, cranking battery zilch. Can't see how two big batteries under the drivers seat can go flat inside 3 weeks. Time to call Green Flag methinks,

What happened when you tried to start up as we know Zig Units are not always reliable. If it’s starts and the latter is the problem then Green Flag won’t help or be happy bunnies being called out of you have not at least tried to start the van.

See my posts in Tech Chat.

The radio had gone dead I.e the screen which normally stays on, even when switched off, was blank. The central locking wouldn't work and I had to unlock it with a key. Then the guy's battery tester read 12.3V and we started it on the key with no jump start needed. The radio screen then asked for a radio code to get it up and running again, so it must've suffered a power outage.

Is it possible you have a bad connection at the battery terminals or a bad earth?
