I can well imagine this has been covered before but we're looking to fit a canopy to our 1999 VW T4 Trident and would like some recommendations.

The Fiamma F45(S) seem popular, however we also like the look of the slimline Thule Omnistor (apparently better made than Fiamma).

Any recommendations on fittings/ adaptors also appreciated and any photos you may have.

Here's our van:

...this is what we use, a Caravanstore 225 - not quite as heavy duty as a Fiamma, but has the advantage of not being permanently attached to the van - it slides along the "c" section awning rail, and we store it indoors when not needed. It unrolls from the bag, legs and struts are unfolded from the front tube, and that's it, done. I always use a tie-down kit, basically a strong strap that goes along the awning top and attached to a spring on one peg, otherwise there's a chance that a good wind will send the awning over the van if you just rely on pegs on the leg bottom.
Ours was £110 from ebay. There are different sizes, so measure first. ..the smallest is 190cm which is too small to be useful.

Like the idea of the C channel setup but looking for something a bit sturdier/ more permanent. Thanks for the suggestion and photos though.

Also repoort, seeing you're from Kendal - have you dealt with SJ Campers before? If so, would you recommend?

Thanks

I have parked in that very spot many times awaiting the ferry also had the Fire Brigade wash my van there on one of their fund raising days, stayed on the site down the road as well a few times,
Happy memories, we may visit the Western Isle in September with a bit of luck.

We had the most amazing time in the Outer Hebrides over Easter, especially Harris. We hope to head back soon...

...no, I know of them but have not dealt with them - but I have had good work done at various times (and with various vans) at RS Campervans (Vantec), at Station Yard, Burneside, just outside Kendal. Paul has always been friendly, helpful, and efficient.

Hope this helps.
