After purchasing privately I have just noticed the top front grey trim that displays AUTOSLEEPER and holds the two high lights is a very bad fit on one  corner side. I can get my fingers in there. It is not sealed on the top at all along the length but is sealed partly underneath. I have poured water in the gap where it collects but does run out from an exit? point underneath the small light. Anyone else had or got this or has any knowledge on whether it's just a cosmetic trim.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Bridlington ,I had a half inch gap at the front of my current van,I filled it in with Sealant and smoothed it off, no leaks ,so far. up!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes ours at its worst is about half an inch and the gap goes from where the grey bit starts above passenger door and around the bend above windscreen and stops above the light about 3ft 6 in length. It would be nice to know if it's a cosmetic piece or whatever. It will take some sealant!! Lol

Just had a look at mine not same model (Berkshire 2009) mine looks fine no mastic where the top bit meets the bottom bit chances are it don't need it.

Ours looks fine from underneath but the gap on top looks awful.

same issue with ours only our was made worse by some one (goodness knows who or why) filling the two drains full of silicone!
 the entire thing filled with water and kept shorting out the lights!

Thanks Raymondo for your comment. Yes ours is sealed underneath except where the lights are there's drain holes. Top has no sealant whatsoever.

Hi Pastyboy.  On our previous m/hme, an AS Broadway, I resealed all around the joints and whilst at AS factory I stated that the only part I could'nt reach was the section over the front which you describe. I was informed that sealant across the top of this strip was not required as it was part of the roof.  I had no bother with this strip which as you say has the Auto Sleepers motif on, and I left well alone.

The sunglasses strip as "Mark" at Willersey calls it was filled in along the top to bring it level with the roof as the gap was collecting water, sand and fly ash.
I have left a small drainage gap either side behind the small lights.

Hi Eddie and thanks for the information about sealant not required on top of the strip so basically I take it you're saying the roof underneath is solid and the strip is attached.
The gap is too big to leave as rubbish and all sorts could get in there. It looks like a really bad fit.

Not the weather to be sealing here, I sealed right across leaving enough of a gap behind the small side lights to let water drain through without touching the light.

Hi PB.
I simply sealed the sides of the strip as far as I could reach and after the info from AS I just left the hard to reach front over the windscreen. Never had any problems at the front but if you look at my posts of mid 2015 you will see the history of the serious damp/wet problems we had with the Broadway. Took approx 6 weeks to dry out at Marquis, Newbury and after being dried out' no more problems.

This ' rather serious problem' was due to there being no sealant between the rear outside walls and the grey apron/wings where they meet the said walls. I would suggest these are the main trouble spots to keep an eye on.

Have now changed to an AS Northants Automatic because I wished to make life a little easier when in crawling traffic. I have already purchased a couple of Sikaflex tubes of mastic which I shall undoubtedly use on the Northants after our hassle with the Broadway, which I must say was absolutely dry when we parted with it.

In our motorhoming life our current m/hme is our 7th  and consider AS one of the best, if not the best.

Hi Eddie,
Have read your "goings on" in 2015. Must have been very stressful for you but i take it the Sunglasses Strip wasn't causing your damp.
Hopefully ours isn't involving any damp. This rainy weather should test it. All the habitation checks show no cause for concern regarding damp. 
It's just the gap along top of this sunglasses strip that's causing me concern.

After the info at AS relating to the 'Sunglasses Strip' I would'nt be too concerned about trying to get sealant injected behind it. On our Broadway there was absolutely no issue or cause for concern relating to any damp problem. As I say previously when the Broadway was given a thorough check over and damp test by the dealers with whom we did the part exchange for the AS Northants, absolutely no adverse issues were found. In fact I was congratulated on the overall condition of the m/hme.

Over the weekend I went to a motorhome show at Wadebridge and there were a couple of Autosleeper there with the Sunglasses Strip so I reached up and one had no gaps but another had the half inch gap the same as mine so yes it is quite common. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond. Cheers

I have a 2007 Nuevo with overcab. I have suffered a leak in the area behind the grey strip over the passenger door. this strip is sealed all along the bottom but open at the top. Water accumulates behind the strip & runs away through the holes below the 2 lights.
I cut away the seal at the bottom of the grey strip & gently pulled it away from the bodywork. You will find that behind the grey strip is the join between the roof & the cab body. this is an overlap joint that is sealed with mastic.
In my case this seal was inadequate & had gaps that allowed water to enter the area above the cab.
I resealed this with Sikaflex, re-attached the grey strip with Sikaflex blobs & resealed under the grey strip.
Problem solved.
When it is very heavy rain the channel behind the grey strip fills with water which had risen above the roof & body join & caused the leak.

Hi Weymouthdave.
Last summer I resealed above the grey strip to which you refer, on both sides of the cab. I managed to reseal around the corners above the windscreen and being outof reach I stopped there. After being informed the top of this strip above the windscreen does not require resealing, I called a halt to it.

I did completely reseal around the joining strip between the roof and vertical sections of the body, also along the top edges of the join between the side and rear aprons which run along the bottom of the lower walls. This work was all following my terrible experience of wet getting in behind the rear outer wall and the panelling inside. My experience of this saga occurred in 2015, details of which I entered on the Forum.

I followed the advice of a fellow Forum member, for which I was grateful, by removing as much as possible of the old sealant with an old credit card which would'nt cause damage if it slipped, as a knife or sharp implement would. After cleaning the areas with white spirits and a final wipe over with clean dry cloth, I used Sikflex 512 to reseal. No more problems with wet or damp.

Having recently changed to another AS m/hme, I am about to start the operation all over again. I don't want to go through that awful wet/damp scenario for a second time.
