Broadway FB storage space Empty Broadway FB storage space

Post by sixties boy on Thu Oct 27, 2016 3:08 am

Hi There, I have been looking at the Broadway FB as a possible purchase at the start of next year, the plan is extensive travelling across Europe for a couple of years, the one thing I notice is that it does not have a huge amount of storage, I looked at the underbed storage cupboard, I did not realise there was another storage area under the skirt along the side, my question to owners is, how useful is this space, how large is it, and has anyone travelled away for a long time and found the storage a problem, I understand everyone has different needs, but I am trying to get a general feeling of teh space availbe from those who have a van, Thanks

Hi, massive storage area under the bed with reasonable access from outside (can easily lean inside through outside locker if you are of slight build. In the under skirt locker, we keep the levelling ramps, filling hoses, warning triangle, wind down handle for steadies and small amounts of flush and cassette chemicals. We do not overload due to compliance of locker floor so keep EHU cable elsewhere. Despite plenty of locker storage, our van only has a 305 kg user payload so what we put in it readily reaches the MTPLM and that is without any on-board fresh water. Our tanks are empty when travelling so you will need to be mindful of what you can carry on your extensive tour of Europe. Regards

Many owners have had the MTPLM increased to achieve a usable payload but there are many down sides of using a van over 3500kg

Yes Peter, am most mindful of your caution to exceed 3500 kg to simply increase the user payload. We highlighted on an earlier post how the van was intentionally loaded up for what we thought was necessary including outside furniture, rain blocker awning, fitted cycle carrier, two electric bikes, wardrobe bulging for any weather conditions, food for two weeks and what ever else has a permanent place on board (too much to itemize). Then off to local weigh bridge to discover that it was exactly 3500. It was free of charge to simply view the computer screen but a paper print out would have been £10 and assume would have given the respective axle loading. It was most sobering to discover that we would have exceeded the MTPLM if any water was then taken on board.

Further, approaching age of 70 also has a bearing?
