Our maiden voyage with Jill....... Empty Our maiden voyage with Jill.......

Post by AndyPK Thu Nov 05, 2015 11:45 pm

We (better half & four dogs) have just returned from our first trip away in Jill (Clubman GL, hence 'Jill'), and had a really great time at Ferry Meadows CC site near Peterborough. The weather could have been better (in November? - fat chance!!) but the location was fantastic with so many walks for the dogs and ourselves. Of course we packed too much, but have used the trip to decide what we really need to take on our next journey up to Lincolnshire in December. Jill was a delight to live in, and we really began to appreciate how she has been constructed. We probably had the smallest motorhome on the site, but who cares?
Looking forward to many more nights away from the bricks and mortar!

Welcome from a dismal Worcestershire.

We are very often the smallest motorhome on the site, but why would we feel the slightest embarrassment? Big is not always best!!

Wait until you've had a bit more experience, and seen the raft of difficulties people get into with their enormous vans. Correction - you won't see a lot of them 'cos they simply can't get to where you/we can go! When we plan a route it's "Where shall we go?". For them it's often, "Can we go there?".

When you've been to (say) Normandy and Brittany and explored some of the delightful seaside coves or little towns down narrow, twisting lanes you will be very pleased you have a small van. If you have to reverse it's not a major problem, and you can easily park in places which would be very difficult or impossible for an 8 metre van. Supermarket car parks spring immediately to mind, and many aires cannot accommodate huge vans. It's not unusual to find fuel stations that are inaccessible to a big van - some of them have been a bit tight even for us!!

Order your ACSI book and get the ferry crossing sorted out for next year - or a free Chunnel crossing with Tesco tokens. France is motorhome heaven.  allthumbz

Hello and asof_welcome2 from Leicestershire. Pleased you had a great trip. Clubmans are so comfortable, Like Gromit said you can go almost anywhere, a great advantage .no need to take additional transport., enjoy camper if you took four dogs I take it they are small ones?, I do find that two larger dogs are a bit tight on room when the weather is bad.
