Towing a car on AutoSleeper Wilton Empty Towing a car on AutoSleeper Wilton

Hi all

We're thinking of towing a Microcar. Does anyone have any pros and cons we should be considering. They are automatic, I'm not sure we would be able to tow one, although I have been told that the transmision is based on a cone system similar to the old Daf and that in neutral it will be perfectly towable?

Any observations greatly appreciated.

Regards

The Wilton should be ok pulling a small car,  not sure about the auto transmission on the car though.
If you are thinking about mainland Europe be aware some countries dont allow A Frames which would mean using a trailer

Hi there,

We use one of these:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Towed on one of these:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The full rig with all the extras cost less than £6,000 brand new.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The quad can be driven on an ordinary car licence.  It's a bit thirsty but it is incredibly convenient to use, away and at home.

Even with a car I would suggest that it is better to tow one rather than use an "A" frame arrangement.

Hope this helps. allthumbz

Best regards,

If you don't have a towbar on your vehicle, that'll cost you about £750 for a start. Having a front towbar fitted to the microcar is about £1500 or you'll have to buy, and store, a trailer.

You can hire a lot of cars for the above money total. Alternatives include public transport, train, taxi, bus etc, taking a fold up bike (Brompton = brilliant to me) That's what I decided when I considered this subject for myself a couple of years ago.

I've seen a few small cars towed behind MHs, by 'A' frame, and by trailer. Each has problems finding parking facilities. As said above there are different laws about towing in various countries. Some will fine you heavily, instantly, if you flout their laws. And I once witnessed a towed car behing hit by the barrier as it tried to go through a toll booth on a French motorway!

Motorbike...on a rack

Got to be the way to go. Just adds a little to the length and so convenient for buzzing around.
