Just had a threatening message from the forum staff saying the least I can do is post on the welcome page.

So "Hi there"

Actually , while I am posting this perhaps someone on the forum staff could tell me why they need to know my gender (with only the two "normal" choices) and my birth date ?

 Hi Dave Hockin

I doubt very much any of the forum staff would send a 'threatening' message out. Unfortunately the written word never comes across in the way it was intended to sound.
It is usual custom when signing up just to say 'hello'. This is a very welcoming forum and the members go 'out of their way' to assist with any queries posted.
I'm sure you will discover this when you need to know something!

With regard to the birthdate and gender, I expect that is just the way the forum has been devised by the program writers. It's not something that is just specific to this forum.

Anyway,

Welcome to the forum  allthumbz

Dates of birth are a field required on most forums.  I doubt you have correctly entered your correct dat of birth.
Neither Admin, CC nor myself would have sent out a threatening post/pm/email

There are terms and conditions on the uise of this forum which most people (circa 3500) find acceptable
