Re: Welsh Aires
A welcome development. Thanks, MJF.
But I thought that the thread was about music... !
I suppose that the inevitable air to be sung at that aire is Ar Hyd y Nos!

Re: Welsh Aires
Although it’s a significant step forward to see these Aires in my homeland, I can only wonder as I sit here in inland Andalucia where all these services are provided in many villages (currently in Antequera) free of charge….

I can't imagine why anyone would want to stay in a carpark by a RW line for £16.50 a night plus £3 for a tank of freshwater! You can't even put up an awning or sit outside the van. I think this is more about councils clamping down on unauthorised wild camping.

I saw the original proposals by Gwynedd Council and If I remember correct that was the idea …. However I agree at £16.50 it will have very little effect

Re: Welsh Aires
I think the only way of stopping unauthorised wild camping is for it not to be free and the way of achieving that is through fixed penalty fines.

Re: Welsh Aires
Do you leave your jack boots by the van step or sleep in them? Fines are a lazy unimaginative way of attempting to control the people. The way things are going you will soon be getting a fine for stepping on the cracks in the pavement. Fines are not the answer, providing cheap Aires similar to France would be a more proactive approach. These councils need to be educated.

Re: Welsh Aires
Jack boots don't come into it. I hate paying to park my car. I'll always park somewhere free if I can, even it involves a walk. But if there is a parking restriction in force that could result in me having a fixed penalty fine, I won't park there. Surely it should be the same for unauthorised wild camping, the difference being there doesn't have to be a sign banning it because it is already banned.

Re: Welsh Aires
Peter - I have no problem with aires if people want to use them but if they are remotely like the one shown in Criccieth, we wouldn't use them regardless of price. My preference is the wide selection of private sector campsites that are already available in this Country, including many less expensive CLs and CSs which they don't have on the Continent, at least not that I have found.Peter Brown wrote:Support Campra [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

It was a lazy post, sorry.
What I should have added is that for the last few years Campra have been reaching out to local authorities to demonstrate how the local economy can benefit by accommodating motorhomers for a couple of days at a time.
Campra hold a paragraph 5 Exemption Certificate from Natural England and are using it to certify 5 van sites tailored for motorhome use. As with any CL, CS or commercial site, its a personal choice whether a site suits you or not.
There is a Campra site in Backworth Park in the Northeast, the park was halfway between home and primary school and I played in it as a child. Its a great location to use if in the area.

Many years ago I was told that if I stepped on the joints in the pavement a big black bear would jump out at the next corner and maul me!
Apparently I was told that to make me look where I was walking!
I still tend to avoid the joints, but paving slabs are not the right pitch for my stride.
