How Much!!!!
I’ve just received a quote for one single plug socket and one double plug socket from Autosleeper as I’m upgrading my electrics. Now I appreciate that all companies need to make a profit but this is just pure profiteering!!!
Autosleeper Price
Single plug socket price £28!
Double plug socket £33
Screw Fix Price total for both £10
And that folks is why car and van insurance is going through the roof!

If you mean are the BSI approved and rated yes. For a few extra pound I could have them chrome fronted as well and far more robust than the tiny flimsy things from AS!!Tinwheeler wrote:Are they identical matching items of equal quality?

Re: How Much!!!!
What type of socket are you talking about, 230V AC? Do they look the same? If you want matching, I think you will have Berker fittings, try these people. It will cost you £34.40 for all the bits you will need.

Re: How Much!!!!
I asked if they are identical matching items, ie are they the same as those already fitted in the van. In my experience, to get matching sockets it’s normally necessary to go to a specialist supplier as per MontyP’s post.westjj42 wrote:

Re: How Much!!!!
As an ex sparky I'm not defending blatant profiteering but sometimes these items are more expensive than standard for a reason. Also as it's motorhome related I would like symitry and it would have to be pleasing to the eye for us otherwise I would look at it every time I was in the van.

Re: How Much!!!!
Most of the cost is probably due to economy of scale, though there always seems to be an additional price premium for motorhome related products. There can't be many of the motorhome type sockets manufactured compared to the bog standard Chinese Export (CE) white wall socket or even MK sockets. Good job the OP doesn't want to add a matching USB socket, you need a small mortgage.RML wrote:As an ex sparky I'm not defending blatant profiteering but sometimes these items are more expensive than standard for a reason. Been there
I know there are cheap lookalike sockets on the likes of eBay but I wanted a trusted unit. Shocking price.

I do want to add 2xUSB-A and 2xUSB-C sockets, but that's a job for next winter. I'd better start saving up!

Re: How Much!!!!
I changed by 230VAC connector on my Warwick XL yesterday as the cover had cracked making it nigh on impossible to open, you can not replace the cover as it is a riveted hinge pin and the covers are available separately, it is made in Germany. Helpfully, it had a part number embossed on the inside of the flap so I did a google search. I found the exact unit on Amazon UK for £33.08 and also found it on the German Amazon web site for €20.99. I ordered it on the German Amazon on Wednesday 6th March, it arrived yesterday (Sunday 10th March). Including delivery charges it cost me a total of £22.28. Rip off Britain!!! German Amazon shown in top screen grab, UK below.
