More help needed please..
I have yet another question I’m hoping someone can answer about my dead battery on my Peugeot boxer Corinium .
I’ve bought a maintenance charger a ( yuasa ycx12 ) A) can I charge the battery whilst it’s still in the vehicle possibly via the bonnet terminals rather than the battery itself
b anyone any idea of what kind of battery it is. AGM ,Gel or ?
I cannot see any identifying marks on the battery itself…
I cannot order a new one until I know what it is and am terrified of taking all the other leads off without knowing exactly what I’m doing..
Halfords won’t fit one and Tayna need to know what type..
This is a whole new world to cars. I can do cars no problem …
Thanks to everyone who helps with my questions. I feel like I should know these things but I don’t so I have to ask..

I'd be interested as to why Halfords won't fit one, I know they've done them before on Boxers/Ducatos. All Boxers use 019 battery.

I'm with Paul on this, wondering why they wont fit one - they fitted mine at my house and took the old one away with no problems at all. If you go on their website you just enter your Reg No and it tells you what batteries fit your vehicle and you order it then and there.

Hi Dave and Paul
The Halfords reg checker doesn’t find my vehicle for some reason .. I can’t find it on ANY battery finder..
Is 019 a type or model number. All I can see on mine is the Varta brand name..

The 019 is battery type, the number is used by all major makes.

First Question - are you asking about the leisure battery or your starter battery? Second - what is the background to this query?

Hi Peter
It’s a follow on to my earlier question about my non starting vehicle battery.
It is a stand alone query though so not referenced to my original post.

Paul,
Thank you, that helps a lot.
I have just been really puzzled as to why my reg didn’t show on any checker..
The dvla have it so I suppose that’s what matters…

A - yes - use the terminals under the bonnet which are used to slave start the vehicleMechelle wrote:....

B - lead acid starter battery
I'm assuming you are referring to the vehicle/starter battery and not the habitation/leisure battery

Re: More help needed please..
My email notification's have been erratic for a few days so was unaware of response.
The ability to use a maintenance charger implies that the van can access a main electric connection, if that is the case then set the EC500 (that I expect a van of your age has) to Smart Charge and leave the van hooked up with the internal charger on. That will maintain both vehicle and Leisure batteries and will not overcharge either.
I don't see any point in using the maintenance charger but if you want too, connect as Caraman suggests.
If you post a picture of the label on the existing battery we can help confirm a suitable replacement.

The label on the existing battery if is the battery fitted from new was a 017 but is replaced with a 019 you can fit a even bigger battery but is not needid . There are other batteries that will fit in the battery box as to the size
You say you don’t see any point in using a maintenance charger so I will explain and show a picture .the charger will have settings normal charge and a recovery charge that I use before testing a battery
The battery if low on power needs a full charge so the smart charge is a no no . You give it a full charge and then can be tested if it’s ok or needs replacing and with a cca tester
So you press and set the mod as can be seen in the picture
What you have said Peter for just a normal charge maybe correct but not with a very low or flat battery
