Post by sueb Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:30 am

Hi, has anyone changed the cassette on a Bourton, mine ie 2011 first reg……. I would like a wheeled one, and wondered if this would fit….my manual say I gave a C-200 CWE fitted, no wheels……this one for sale says it’s a C200 series. The used van dealer I bought fron says it’s not possible……but then he isn’t a Bourton owner…..would love to prove him wrong, and not carry my full cassette!….any ideas please!

I looked into retro fitting one of these in my Nuevo, also the 200 series. But as we do quite a bit of off grid touring, I was put off by the reduced capacity due to the space taken up by the wheels.
I carry a tiny folding wheeled trolley for use when the emptying point is some distance away, I decided to stick with that.

Yes, I got one of those for the C200-CW* on our Pollensa and it fits a treat.
Also having the wheels makes life easier as I get older and less able!
Al mentioned reduced capacity due to the wheels, but the specification states 17l which is the same as the original as far as I can see.

*I think the E designates electric flush whereas ours is manual, otherwise identical.

Beware - the wheels are small and not up to coping with rough ground. They are not as robust as the wheels on a trolley such as Al uses.

I'm sure I read somewhere, maybe on here, that the capacity is reduced by almost 10%, that's several 'uses' if correct. Whatever, as Tinwheeler says, when wheeling over rough gravel or paving I'd be wary of breaking an axle or wheel, maybe even leading to a cracked cassette.. and knowing my luck it'd be when we were just starting out on a lengthy European tour..
I think I'll stick with cosseting my cassette on it's trolley.

I found the cassette heavy to carry so I bought a small folding trolley at asda about £19, others could be available. the trolley when folded takes up very little space.

Another tick for a separate trolley. We have a sturdy (Spanish) shopping trolley with good strong wheels. With bag it is useful for markets and bigger shopping trips, the bag is a good shoe/ bottle store in the loo when travelling and the trolley travels in the bike rack or wedged between the picnic chairs behind the cab seats

I see the merit of a little lightweight trolley. It's because of the weight of our non-wheeled cassette that I tend to empty it every other day on site.

But a trolley must have wheels which are at least the diameter of those on a wheeled cassette, or else the trolley wheels would not travel easily over grass / gravel. I've looked at various folding lightweight trolleys on Amazon, one weighing a mere 900 grammes - but it seems to have small wheels.

Am I fretting unecessarily?

I got a trolley to carry my waste water container but now got a wheeled container (my cassette already has wheels). The trolley I got from Home Bargains and cost £5. Its surplus to requirements now but postage costs would not be viable.

Separate trolley every time.  The wheels fitted to toilet cassettes are pretty much useless on uneven ground or over a distance.  Even when we have had a cassette with wheels on previous vans we still put it on a trolley. Mrs Jimmee.

I got the fresh up kit with wheeled cassette three years ago - best accessory I've ever bought, so much easier that trying to fix a cassette to a separate trolley. The slight reduction in capacity is no issue for me as I empty every day.
