External BBQ Point/Outlet in a Nuevo 2004
Me and her indoors like having an external BBQ point and there is not one fitted to our Nuevo 2004.
I will do the job myself and grit my teeth as I drill the 60 mm hole in the side of the van (having first checked if there are any wires etc in the way).
It is worth noting that the Bullfinch has an 8mm OD pipe connection inside the van even though most vans now seem to use 10 mm OD pipework.
I have ordered all the parts:
Bullfinch External BBQ point in white £43
3 m Coil of 8 mm OD Coper Pipe £12
10 mm T Had one is stock
Short length of 10 mm pipe Had some in stock
10 - 8 mm reducer £2
8 mm in line shut off valve £7
I will T off from under the cooker, Run along the inside front edge of the cooker storage area, Through the divider and into the double cupboard. This way it will be in a position that is accessible but not knocked.
The actual point will be to the right (viewed from the outside) of the habitation door low down. Quite good as you could sit on the step under the awning doing the BBQing.
Here is a pic of the location I intend to connect to. Yes it needs a hoover and a little clean.
Green splonge is the 10 mm T location and the green line is the route of the 8 mm pipe, Cut off valve and reducer

I take it you are qualified under the Gas Safe Scheme (Mobile) or have some qulaification under the Presssure Systems and Portable Gas Containers Act.

The photo Below where X marks the spot is roughly where I intend to put the outlet.
Now going to email Auto Sleepers to ask them if there might be any wires or similar in the location[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Awnings and barbeques
Hi,
Please,
please do not barbeque under an awning - highly dangerous as you are trapping gasses. If your awning is out your barbeque should be at least 4 feet away. Best advice barbeque without an awning!

There is no requirement to be registered under any scheme if you are doing work on your own motorhomeroli wrote:I take it you are qualified under the Gas Safe Scheme (Mobile) or have some qulaification under the Presssure Systems and Portable Gas Containers Act.

The naysayers are rife.
You could always get it checked by a gas qualified person. That’s probably what I’d do just for insurance purposes

A man was flying along, quite happily in his aeroplane
The engine stopped
He jumped out, pulled his ripcord, nothing happened!!
Plumetting earthwards, to his amazement he sees anther guy going upwards!
Shouts accross, do you know anything about parachutes.?.
No said the upwards heading guy, do you know anything about gas installations???????

Roli is correct. Be careful with gas fittings as I believe it is an offence to carry out any work even on your own outfit unless you have the Gas Safe qualification. Doing work yourself and then getting a gas safe person to check is also not allowed and the person checking would also be in danger of committing an offence. Best to have it done by a fully qualified person who can give the correct certificate. I have unfortunately seen someone suffer the sad consequences of not following the rules.

Highway Insurance won't cover fire damage unless any gas work has been carried out by qualified person. They also require annual gas safety check. Check the small print , other companies may have similar rules.

In engineering 3 things to avoid like the plague....
1 compressed or wound springs
2 pressurised gases
3 flammable gases, which are, by definition, under pressure.
Ill fiddle with most things, never any of the above

Had a pressure test done on a piece of underwater equipment in Aberdeen. Had to be, as is usual 1.5 x working pressure.
WP was 18000 psi, TP was 27000 psi
We used specialist firm to do it, I took the boys to lunch!!!
(So was AVPIN!)

The Law
Quite interesting to read the comments on here from people with no clue as to the Gas Safety Regulations in force at the moment. In the UK only a COMPETENT person can work on a gas installation. DIY expert does not count and if you are in any doubt just have a look at this guide.

Basically, if you don't have the qualification, you are not covered. Having a Gas Safe engineer check your work is not acceptable either. I am Registered with LPG and LAV and I would not dream of passing work done by an unqualified installer. Be safe. Get it done correctly.

Not that I'm ever going to work on any gas related installation but I can't get the link to work.

Same here for the link - but I do admit to having removed fridges and Carver heater in the past but not in the last 10 years. Now I'd get a man in.

This is interesting too but I can’t see anything about law relating to caravans/MHs other than hired vans.

The Gas Safety (installation and Use) Regulation 1998 states in clause 2(5)
"(5) Nothing in these Regulations shall apply in relation to the supply of gas to, or anything done in respect of a gas fitting on—
(a)a self-propelled vehicle except when such a vehicle is—
(i)hired out in the course of a business; or
(ii)made available to members of the public in the course of a business carried on from that vehicle;"
So I am afraid you can mess with your own motorhome gas system. I wouldn't but it is not illegal or unlawful (subtle difference).

Enough has been said on this topic now and I have decided to close the thread.
Genuine facts have been spelt out by Kutch and others in addition to my own knowledge which I accept is probably out of date.
