So the total footprint occupied by your units would still be considerably less!malc45 wrote:The total cost for the pitch a car and caravan was the same as for the motorhome but with the
trailer I take made it that much more.
Malc.
I get really annoyed with most sites here in the UK.

When we go to France, we pay for a pitch and are then free to use it however we wish. We can position and orient our van to take advantage of sun, shade, shelter from wind, or whatever - none of this dictatorial "pitch to a peg" nonsense.

We have a pitch reservation sign with our van's registration number on; I'm hoping this will make it unattractive to potential thieves.v8oholic wrote:I have heard that the pitch reserved signs sometimes go missing! I intend to get one though.groundhog wrote:Pitch reserved sign for us cost about eight of your finest British pounds if I remember, everything else we take although we do have a piece of gash orange rope which we use as a pitch marker in undesignated places. If it gets stolen really nothing lost!
We used to leave our EHU cable behind when we went out in the van (circuit breaker flicked to OFF on the bollard), but they're expensive items and it would be an enormous inconvenience to come back to find it gone, so now we take it with us. We have a fairly knackered set of yellow levelling ramps and these are sometimes left as pitch occupation markers.

Amazon just delivered the yellow pitch marker. There might also be times when I take our Eurde trailer so locking that up should do the job

Re: When you leave the site
As an aside, use of pitch occupied signs doesn't always work. We returned to a site in Derbyshire to find another van neatly parked up on our pitch, despite leaving our large 'pitch occupied' sign. Fortunately, the site owners were in the process of moving the newcomer off to another pitch. I think they were tired and frazzled after a long day's drive and had taken our pitch without looking! No harm done, but we were amazed that they hadn't seen our sign.

A problem I have found with the tall yellow signs that fold out is that they blow over in the wind and then aren't as visible.

Treat yourself to one that sticks in the ground...

Take an empty plastic milk bottle with you: fill it with water and hang it inside the sign. Solves that problem!Caraman wrote:A problem I have found with the tall yellow signs that fold out is that they blow over in the wind and then aren't as visible.

If I had chosen it myself I would have got one of those or one like it but my yellow one was a Christmas present so I am stuck with it a bit.Paulmold wrote:Caraman wrote:A problem I have found with the tall yellow signs that fold out is that they blow over in the wind and then aren't as visible.

Just seen Slowlane's comment - I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Cheaper option (similar to what I use).

I do this too.
I also leave the waste master and aqua roll there too, as you say, it's an outdoor item.
I used to have Silverscreens on my old van. I always left those on the pitch too.
Having read all the reports here of random things going walkabout I'm now considering myself quite lucky!
A question for those who have items stolen, were you on a large club site? Small CL? Private site?

Drill a hole through the bottom foldy bits and then you can just whack a peg in if on grass or as suggested put something heavy on the base if on concrete.

Now that is a simple and very good idea
