Yours might be different to ours.  We don't have a loose metal clip.  When the worktop is pushed home fully it clicks into place and has to be pulled firmly to bring it out again.  It will only come out as far as its runners allow and when it is out nothing holds it in place.  It sounds as though you have a snagging problem that the dealer should fix.
