Did you know ?

You may know but I did not till recently.......look at your dashboard fuel gauge (motorhome or car post 2010) and beside the fuel pump icon there is an arrow....that’s the side your filler cap is on. Sure you would know that anyway but maybe not if in unfamiliar or hire car. Just a bit of useless information I was surprised I didn’t know!

I’ve encountered car salesmen who didn’t know either.

Doesn't help some people though.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but it's a fallacy.
It's just pot luck if your fuel cap is on the same side as the icon.

My Ford B Max is certainly one that's opposite.

But which way does the arrow point?

All mine (Vauxhall, Mazda and Mercedes) point to the side of the filler.

Yep, was told this a few months ago after over 30 years of driving! Certainly works for every vehicle I've driven since! Always had issues when hiring cars in the past and wishes I'd know then!
