Hi , i just had a crush on those early Mini's .
Had 2 brand new and another 3 later.
Always wanted the Mini Cooper but i was careful with my money. A big regret.

Re: New Motor Museum opening Easter
Their Facebook page has photos of some of the vehicles they have. Can't find any information on cost of the driving experience. I seem to have owned many models they have so far , so looking forward to seeing the collection when they open. The CAMC site The Firs near Belper is close by.
I never owned Mini although I did have a couple of lessons in a Riley Elf.

We've had a few mini's ,no Coopers but a 1275 Gt Clubman, we lived near Kinross car auction that had two used car sales every week.
Really cheap place to buy a car, I live 500 yards from Bridington car auctions, not been tempted yet.

3 from the classic collection but I could argue that I've had a Spitfire instead of a Midget and an XJ6 instead of an XJ-S but I can't get to 7 despite the fact I've owned over 30 cars in total.Achilles heel wrote:I've owned 7 models from the three collections. Any advance?

I've driven variants of all but the Rolls, Bentley and Austin 7 - I don't need to pay to remember the experiences.
My first car was a Morris Minor and I've owned a Viva and a Mini 30 (That was in mint condition when it was stolen from my drive in the early 90's) plus another 14 that aren't on their lists. Three of them were owned for over 10 years each - working for the railway I didn't do massive amounts of road miles - in my own car that is.

Wow, I can't compete with that, I estimate I've only owned a dozen cars in my 55 years of driving.
I can make up for it with motorbikes though, well into three figures with those...
I'll be visiting that museum though, it's not far down the A6.
Al.

Re: New Motor Museum opening Easter
Went to it today. 100 cars on display , all British of course which meant not many 'exciting' models. You get an audio headphone tablet to narrate it all, going from Austin 7's to DeLorean. A lot of models you may expect where not represented , 5 Minis of various styles, 3 Metros etc but no Cortina mk2 or 3, if you get my drift. Not many Vauxhall or Hillman. I dont know if they had to buy them all or if any are on loan and can't see how they can expand the collection as the building is full. I would say its OK but I've been to better collections, for £15 (£13 concessions) expected a bit more.

Hold on boys!!
In the 50s my dad bought me a Austin 10 to learn to drive in on family friends farm. Cost £5. White note
Bought an Austin 40, was a bit tippsy at the time full of holes, repaired and was the best car ever had paid £20 sold it for £40 that was 1969 loved the mini. Loved the Mercedes 350 SEL
Drove most cars, as I had a job in the motor trade driven everything.
Only car never driven is a Volvo
