Thetford Cooker Empty Thetford Cooker

Post by CJ1949 Wed Oct 24, 2018 4:54 pm

In May 2016 we bought a new Winchcombe from Derby Motorhomes
On point of collection the wife said she could not open the cooker door - needed Popeye muscles.

They tinkered with the door catch which sort of helped. But on the way home the door kept opening / slamming shut every couple of miles.

We then had to have 2 more trips to  Derby MH(300 mile around trip) fix other faults again we complained about the cooker. A tinker had another go.

We then had to visit Willersey because Derby could not fix the front blinds. We of course then asked them to check the cooker door - another tinker with no change. We were now stuffing rubber etc to try keep door shut. The wife was always complaining about the gap between the door and the frame which let out the heat so dial on maximum.

The following 2 years we took our MH to Willersey for its annual service - again complaining about the faulty cooker -again tinkered with, this year it became a  bit of shrug shoulder contact Thetford.

Which we did firstly their ‘ customer services’ should change name to ‘Snakepit’.

They first disgracefully blamed the wife for leaning on the door when getting up! She just 8 st & fairly fit - she was incensed. They wanted lots of pictures which they did nothing with.

At this point we contacted Alan Curry at Autosleeper to complain

Then Thetford reluctantly agreed for one of their service engineers to check it.

We got Mercian mobile (local) who when checking the cooker found simply taking some screws off the door he discovered that the frame was split and no way would the door fit properly. He was sure that this fault was done at manufacture. He also noticed that door Catch was on the door not the frame ! 8 people at tinkered with without anyone noticing!

Thetford then said that they would replace it but that took 6 weeks to arrive

Waiting to have it installed. (I then cancelled my solicitor appointment).

We wrote / telephoned to Derby motorhomes absolutely no response. or help at all

Derby Motorhomes -null stars ( never again)

Autosleeper Willersley  -null stars the cooker was simply dangerous to use for 2 years ! Disappointed with Willersey service- that’s an understatement.

Thetford -1 *at least we got a replacement cooker eventually

Mercian mobile - 5 * stars

By time its fixed we without our MH now nearly 3 months

Why are you 'without your motorhome for three months'? Have I missed something?
