Saying Hello
Hi Folks, very new here, so thought I should introduce myself.
I live in Suffolk and due to a quite early retirement I have just recently bought an Auto cruise Star-blazer 2004, the one with the fixed bed at the back, in order to find a new focus. I am still gasping at what I've done and have sense of trepidation I suppose, although I have been away for just a couple of quick weekends so far. (Husband has always had caravans in the past and has kindly put his in storage (oopse, feeling a bit guilty about that) so I can go ahead with this new venture,). He is is still working with a few years to go which is a bit tricky to work around (school buildings and facilities manger). Despite me having a few aggravating disabilities, which can be a nuisance at times, I hope to get away independently as my biggest passion is for my Flatcoated retriever and rescue Golden retriever... my two girls, who will be coming everywhere with me.( I would be interested to know how other people secure their dogs in the back whilst traveling), I have often met up with other flattie owners for walks and have thought a motorhome may make trekking around the country a little easier.
I have just about got to grips with driving the MH (should I give it a name?) and have just about worked out how to connect up the essentials myself. I have one question though, perhaps you can help. On considering how best to look after the water system such as the on board fresh water tank, just as an exercise, we tried emptying the fresh water tank completely, (the pump was off at this point) and on looking down into the water tank I could see what I think is a rubber bung in the bottom. It didn't want to move when I put my hand in and gave it a twist. I am conscious of not wanting to contaminate the tank by putting my hand in unless absolutely necessary. Do you suggest I get this remaining water out even if using the MH on occasion over winter.... (hoping to go to Scotland for xmas maybe). Is this the tank's plughole? And should this rubber bung move? I fear getting a pair of mole grippers onto it may cause more harm than good. I couldn't find anything in the handbook to help.
Well, thanks for reading, and any advice for touring with this model MH for me as a newbie would be most welcomed, thank you.

Re: Saying Hello
Hello - congrats on your purchase!
One thing that you need to know about this forum: some people use the term "Autosleeper" as a generic term for a motorhome, but this forum really does specialise just in motorhomes manufactured by Auto-Sleepers!
So although we all know a bit about motorhoming in general, very few people if any here will know much about a motorhome made by Autocruise.
On the subject of water, most of us here probably wouldn't worry too much about handling the inside of the water tank, and generally draining down doesn't need to get the system completely dry - small amounts of water left in the tank will do no harm. Some people like to run a sterilising solution through the system each year, but I suspect that most just flush out the old water, fill up and go.

Re: Saying Hello
I am so sorry, I realised just after uploading the message that I had the wrong group!! Of course, I've just made a really big blooper. I have emailed admin to acknowledge my mistake, however, I would like to say "thank you" for your advice anyway, its helpful.

Re: Saying Hello
Hello to you too. You've chosen well for your first van. The older Autocruise, prior to the Swift takeover, are excellent motorhomes. We started with one, had virtually no problems and pretty much got what we paid for it when we p/exd it. Enjoy your motorhome, ;your dog's will love it as much as our spaniel does.
