next to the fresh water inlet there is a small round glass is this to tell if tank is full not put any water in yet.

If by 'round' you mean cylindrical tube, then quite probably.

If the round glass piece is connected to the fresh water feed pipe, it could be a water strainer or filter,   scratch head otherwise sorry I don't know.

Is it definitely next to the Fresh Water?  I only ask because, for many years, AS used a vertical glass tube as an indicator of the contents of the cistern tank. But that - on the Clubman for example - was inside the WC locker.  Assuming it indicates the level of the fresh water tank, then it should be easy to test (and to calibrate the tube if you like using a marker pen).

Beats me, unless as Cymro suggests you are referring to the one in the toilet compartment which is exactly that?
