Back from the distant past!! Empty Back from the distant past!!

Post by bartholomew10 Sat Oct 01, 2011 11:47 am

Hallo all,
Have had my 1986 TE 'Talisman 1' for many years but went seriously ill and the poor old thing has been unused for several years now. I am about to start this weekend the huge task of treating rust and neglect to put her back on the highways - but at least she still turns over on the starter and the clutch is free.
Must now try to find replacement 'side' windows as these have corroded so much, so keen to know if any later models are the same size(anyone know please?).

Before that will be new sills needed, but the main chassis seems sound enough still. Have lost the 'tubular' rear door key too - - so that's another problem, but hoping I can get to dismantle from the inside.

Lovely vehicle with lots of holidays behind her, so here's to the future!!,

Nice to have you onboard Richard.

There are quite a few of these Talbots about and many have been restored so body panels shouldnt be an issue. Cant help on the windows. Regarding your tubular key, presume its the type on caravan lockers and motorhome door security devices. I would think if you can get the lock off and take it to a dealer or locksmith they would be able to sort for you.

Just a quickie to say a 'Thank You' to those in the Forum who were kind enough to send a 'welcome' when I joined yesterday.

Look forward to being on the road hopefully in a month or two,
'Regards' all round,
Richard

Back from the distant past!! Empty Update!!

Post by bartholomew10 Fri Oct 28, 2011 6:56 pm

Update!!!! - Found the darn keys and all is well. Now 'all' I have to do it see if I can put her back on the road.
It's that or maybe sell her to someone who's skilled with a mig welder and who wants a project!

Amazing how age does rather temper enthusiasm, sad to say!

Cheers all,
Richard
