Pollensa 2001 kitchen cupboard

I'm new to the forum and am already finding it so helpful!

I wonder whether anyone has found the kitchen cupboard in the Pollensa (2001) model as annoying as I do?  This is the double cupboard that hinges in the centre and completely blocks the entrance door when it's open and is really unwieldy.  I have noticed that the new models have a lovely arrangement of a single cupboard and a drawer unit.  I've thought of several modifications that could perhaps be made but would welcome suggestions from anyone else who has also found this annoying and/or found a good solution.
