Suggestion 1: Adjustable child door/stair gate
Suggestion 2: A harness, leashed to appropriate point in hab area
Suggestion 3: In winter, we overcome the problem of the cab heater trying inadequately to heat the whole hab void, by fixing a cloth sheet* between the cab and hab areas, using poppers fixed so that it can either be floor to ceiling, or waist height, depending on how cold it is. This would prevent ingress by said pesky pet.
* It's actually a removable zip-up door section from one of our garden gazebos

I read on another forum that 4 nails would do the job and the bonus is that the dog will not suffer any injury in an emergency stop. It is a bit messy getting the nails back out of the floor, the splinters can be horrendous. I prefer to use coach bolts

Re: How to keep dog out of cab
My dog travels in a crate, which she also sleeps in at night. My previous dog wore a car harness attached to the seat belt on the back seat.
It's dangerous to travel with an unrestrained dog - think how far a dog would fly and the damage it would do to itself in an accident.
