Broadway End Lounge

Can any owners of the end lounge variant of the Broadway advise on length of the beds in single configuration? Some models have the U-Shaped lounge layout, but I understand some where also fitted with a small chest of drawers (newer Broadway models definitely do I know) we have been thinking if we were to upgrade a Broadway could work well for us... I don't think you get the same feeling of space from an end lounge as you do from a centre lounge layout, but I think (rightly or wrongly) that the end lounge layout is more practical and as you are at the back of the vehicle you get better views around you from your seating area and as a bonus you would escape the drafty cabs of the boxer in very cold weather.

We currently use our Nuevo beds as two singles but as you know the front seats need to be rotated to extend the beds and we like the idea of the Broadway to be able to just lay down without any additional work involved, neither of us are tall and this pic looks like it would be suitable. Also as the cooker is beside the seating / bed MrsCC has commented that when cooking splashes are likely to go over the upholstery... I'm aware there is a glass screen which flips up but how do you find cooking? bacon and eggs springs to mind!

In the version shown in your top photograph the nearside single is considerably shorter than the offside.

We had an Inca EL (the Broadway is a derivative via the Sigma) and always set up as a double. The cooker has to be where it is because of the location of the wheel arch and Chris did not like it but in practice we had no problem either using it or from splashes - but I am careful when I cook!!

We have what you call the newer layout i.e. with the chest of drawers (the top of which cleverly opens out to a decent sized table)
Ours is a 2010 Broadway EL
I have just re-measured the single beds. They are both 1.93M - that is 6ft 4" in old money.
We find them superb.
On our longish (7 or 8 week) trips around Europe we do not take the side and rear cushions.
Instead we have made 2 tailored memory foam matresses, from a double one.
The lounge is thus a semi-perm bedroom since we follow good weather and live outside during the day under the awning.

Obviously we could up-end the matress to create a temporary back rest if we wish to use the lounge.

In this layout, as you pic shows, the sink is immediately adjacent to the lounge, with the hob on the other side next to the door.

Thanks backtrax... ideally we would like a late 2010 Broadway EL model like yours.... I think they went over to the new styling Broadway that we don't like in 2011 or 2012 not sure which? Maybe you or another member will know?

Interesting you say on yours that the seats are the same in length, as I spoke to a dealer today that has a 2009 Broadway EL but this has the u-shape lounge as pictured in my first post and they kindly measured the beds for me and came back with "the cooker side measures 1.67m (5’6”) and the offside seat 1.94m (6’4”)" which we could just get by with the 5ft 6" on one side at a push... so guessing the models with the chest of draws (as yours) give you two equal length beds as you state, this is probably a better layout and the chest doubles up as a good bedside unit at night. We liked this layout in one of the Broadway's we saw at a show last year which changed our opinion on the end lounge model as previously were not that keen on them as they seemed darker and not as light and airy as the centre lounge layout.

Another query I have is the external wet locker, presume the Broadway has one? as I don't think we could manage without this after having one on our current van, also does the gas locker hold 2x 6kg gas bottles? The reason I ask is it looks smaller than the one on the Nuevo.... by the way is your Broadway also a six speed?

Know what you mean about the outside living, when we had our Trident we could never understand why so many coachbuilt owners shut themselves up inside, we also like to wind the awning out and relax with the old Gold blend well i do at least... that is when MrsCC is not dragging me off to walk miles and see the sights!

To answer your questions.
Yes, the motor is 6 speed manual and has aircon and cruise control.
I find it has more than enough power and has good mpg - last year we did 2500 miles around France, fully laden (no motorways) and averaged 28mpg.
Around here, unloaded I get 33 mpg

There is an external wet locker on the off side in which I keep Ramps, Hook up cable, Water hose etc.

The gas locker holds 2off 6Kg bottles and between them I have a 5 litre plastic bucket full of bits and pieces.

As you say, the chest of drawers between the beds is a good bedside cabinet which is really all we use if for. For our long trips we find there is more than enough overhead storage space in the habitation area and over the cab.
