E111/EHIC

Our European Health Card - formerly known as the E111 has just come up for renewal. I went on line to what I thought was the official government site and duly filled in all the details. At the end of the exercise the site asked for £17.99. Because I am old and stupid I cursed the government and paid. The web site looked to be authentic.
I now know that the EHIC card is free and basically I have paid for a service I didn't need. I finished up on this site after putting EHIC in Google.
Please, learn from my stupidity and be careful.

Sorry to hear you fell for it. The only consolation is that it isn't quite a scam because I presume that you will eventually get your EHIC.

These sites shadow almost all Government Agencies both here and in the USA and they are often listed well before the Government site when you use a search engine.

IN MOST CASES THE TRUE FAULT IS WITH SEARCH ENGINE FOR GIVING PEOPLE THE COMMERCIAL SITE BEFORE THE OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT SITE!

I don't see our politicians doing anything about it though!!

Hi Yes this is diabolical!!
According to the papers 1 in 7 are caught!!
Have to go down to web search and NHS.
I think something similar with visas.
Its like small print, it should be banned by the government.
