Had the van for 5 years but seem to be having power loss now and it's putting me off driving the old bus. Someone suggested replacing a diaphram but can't remember where or how. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi elaine001 and welcome to the Forum allthumbz

Could you let us know what year and model your "old bus" is - and the base vehicle - then we'd have a better idea how to help with your power loss problem

Cheers

Stevo

Is it one of these?

Just asking as it might help with the answer to your problem, diaphram mentioned could be the carburettor?

Paul is on the right track re. the diaphragm - it's a Stromberg carb on these and through time the diaphragm can perish

Hi from Elaine in Edinburgh Stromberg-diaphragm

It goes in here, under the domed part, secured by 4 screws..........

Hi from Elaine in Edinburgh Empty hi elaine

my beddie is just like that but a 1984 i had the same problem you need to know which carb is on it as mine was a webber then get a carb kit and a good mechanic i can give you details for a guy down here who deals in nothing else but bedfords so he will have the parts you need.
mine drives like a dream now don't forget to put additive in your fuel tank as they r not meant to run on unleaded petrol it can damage your valve seats . john

Thanks for all your advice. Was going to post a piccie but failed miserablly. How do I get an img on the forum, it's asking for a URL. I guess I need to remove the cover inside the van to check which carb is installed. On the unleaded thing, the previous owner said that he had put fishing lead weights into petrol tank and that should provide enough lead without using an additive. Never heard of that one before. Do you think I should use additive as well?

A bag of lead in the tank was a substitute for "soft" valve seats when unleaded was introduced but I don't think I'd be depending on that alone - additive would be the better option IMO

There is a tutorial on how to load photos by Admin , see here

It looks complicated at first but once you've done one it becomes quite easy.
