Tried to use awning in current heatwave but it will not wind out, anti clockwise to open. First use since we bought the vehicle in October, not much call for it in Scotland these last few months. Any ideas? Thanks Keith

Like our previous Broadway EK, your awning is sort of inset below the roofline. Recall an occasion when ours wouldn't readily open but resolved by applying gentle leverage along the gap with a wooden type spatula. It seemed to drop a fraction as it released from the storage position. Once deployed cleaned and lubricated all moving parts and adjacent surfaces, no further problems. Perhaps a pre inspection to ensure proper alignment showing equal gap along surrounding edges including the ends. Your awning must be at least four metres long so there is a lot of weight bearing down on the initial release operation. Regards

After reading your message i have been out to check mine the Gloucester awning is wound clockwise out and anti clockwise in. As said above the mechanism can stick as it winds into a housing flush with the side of the van. and mine drops an inch as soon as it moves out of the side.

Simon

I'm not sure if this would apply to you, but I have had a similar problem with a recently purchased 2015 model Broadway EK.

Our first attempt to open awning resulted in it failing to extend beyond 2-3 feet. Consequently it also failed to retract completely into the cassette housing.

A visit to Rose awnings at Poole, resulted John (the owner) finding that the newer Thule awnings have a black plastic "widget" within the mechanism that prevent over tightening of the awning fabric. This was removed, but because of previous attempts to extend and retract the awning the fabric had creased beyond repair. Fortunately this is being repaired under Chelston Motorhomes warranty. The plastic "widget" is not being replaced!

Apparently if an awning is not too badly creased it can be remedied by gently applying a hair dryer to the creases and smoothing them - not for the faint hearted I guess though!

I'd say that this is another example of manufacturers  making so-called "improvements"! I think we're all capable of knowing when an awning is fully tensioned - if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

Hope this helps.

Yes that is the correct way, they do stick as already stated, ours has never gone back in to the cassette easily without a bit of a shove ( good job I am six foot), probably the very reason Autosleeper have dropped the design! Looks pretty but not very efficient.

I have had a problem with the awning on my Gloucester which Auto Sleepers have failed twice to fix I took it to Hill View Awnings who are a Thule dealer about an hour and it works fine now it has been adjusted properly and only £40.00.
