Brand New

Hi all,

My name is Michael, 46 years of age and I am very new to Motorhomes and using forums. So please excuse me if I sound like a novice.

My wife and I purchased our first motorhome, a 1990 Renault Trafic Holdsworth Ranger, in February. The idea was to see if we could get comfortable with motorhoming before upgrading. I fell in love with a friend's VW camper van in the 1990's and always wanted that kind of freedom. Until now we have either camped with tents or stayed in B&B's. Time for a bit of comfort I think.

I have been doing tons of research on motorhomes (but still very much a novice) and can safely say the best advice came from people who actually owned them and could point you in the right direction. I only realized recently that I have relatives who own motorhomes, (I cannot believe I never knew), and as soon as they found out I had a motorhome, they were round my house inspecting, giving advice, tips etc. It was a bit of information overload ha ha. My uncle then reminisced about his first motorhome, a Hymer I believe.....

I have also joined the rtmr (as suggested) and am awaiting confirmation of subscription. We live in Northern Ireland and will hopefully take a short overnight trip soon to somewhere not to far away to see how we cope. It will be a steep learning curve but cannot wait to give it a go.

Hi and welcome to the forum from sunny Bridlington , not sure if you will get much advise from the forum members as we all own Autosleeper vans and motorhomes.(nearly all)
Don't know if Richard Holdsworth owners have a forum to post on ?
However I believe there is. Renault traffic forum ??

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum.
You may not have realised, but this forum is for Auto-Sleeper owners rather than Holdsworth, Hymer etc.. That is not to say that you are not welcome here, its just that members expertise on this forum is weighted towards the Auto-Sleeper models.
Like the RTMR, you won't get kicked out for owning the wrong make of vehicle. I have to say that I've always liked the Ranger - very nice vans.

Without stepping on Sue's toes, I can assure you that your RTMR membership has been processed 'cos about an hour ago, I added you to the list of members who can access the members only part of the club website.

Thank you for informing me about not having the correct vehicle for the forum. That is how new I am to this. Contacted The Holdsworth Club yesterday and received a reply to state I had contacted the right place. I would like to stay with the Auto-sleepers Motorhome Owners Forum just to check out out general advice that may come along. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum, I'm new on here as well very helpful if you have a problem even in your case batting for the other side.

Frazzle, as you are, in your own words new here you probably don't realise that there are many, long standing and well respected members of this forum who no longer own an Auto-Sleeper.
Terms like 'spy in the camp' and 'batting for the others side' could cause offence although meant in jest [I hope!] particularly as 'batting for the other side' is usually a reference to a person's sexuality.
It's people who make a forum or club - not vehicles.

Welcome from sunny Cornwall, great van the Renault Holdsworth, our son had one he lived in for a year whilst travelling Europe, never went wrong once and I found the Renault a good drive too!

I realise that mate, but as a response to someone who has only just joined, and has already been told that this is not the 'correct' forum for him, he might feel a little uncomfortable, which is not what we want - is it?
