Satellite TV Set Up

We used to have a motorhome that was bought secondhand with an Oyster self-seeking set-up and it had a miniature Receiver that accepted my Sky card, although it only provided the basic free channels. Benefit of course was just about anywhere we went we could get Coronation Street and Emmerdale so anything else was a bonus. Also, we parked, pressed theswitch and we were in business by the time the kettle boiled.

Now we are retired, can't afford a couple of grand for similar, so what's a good, economical, fairly easy way to achieve 99% success rate, ideally using our Sky+box from home?

Any ideas out there with indication of cost? Thanks in advance.

Can you not just hire the sticks when you get to wherever you are playing?

Don't know that you need a full back box for golf clubs. How about making a smaller one out of aluminium or wood, you can always make it detachable and fit locks.

Hi

Because I carry the bikes on the carrier, I use my small winter carry bag and take a half set, which then fits horizontally across the rack in between the bikes, secured with bungees. No problem ever.

Just changed to a Motorhome from a caravan. We had to set up a tripod or bolt a dish to our caravan. Was pretty adept at setting it up, I usually ended up helping others to set up their dishes with the help of my iPhone. But it took time, calling to my wife "what's the signal strength?, what's the signal quality? Etc. Setting up a caravan with water, waste, cranking up the steadies etc etc. Anyway, when we stop in our Amethyst, we park, put the kettle on and just like you did, switch on our Oyster auto system. Two minutes or less and bingo Sky news,
Bought my Oyster system secondhand from Ebay. Fitted it with the help of a friend. Easy!
No way I would go back to a manual system. Last week we watched our caravan neighbours take about one and a half hours packing up. We had just returned from a walk to Alnwick Castle gardens. We made a cup if tea and sat enjoying the sunshine listening to the radio, via satellite. We then decided to go. Push the button to fold the dish, Turn the gas off, fridge to battery, off with the pump, put the chairs in and off we go. 2 minutes.
Suggest you save a bit of the pension and buy another Oyster system. Every time you press the remote button, you will think, "Right Decision".

Thanks for that. You presuppose i'm intelligent and can do things with my hands. Unfortunately i'm rubbish at everything apart from washing up in the van and beating my wife at Canasta. so_sad

Hi Dutto

playing with my own golf clubs yesterday, and having had 2 more golf lessons on a course I play at least 3 times a week, and shooting an impressive 120 on a not easy par 72 course, your idea of playing with just sticks is a ridiculous one.

To play as well as I do necessitates me taking my own, cherished clubs with me everywhere I go.

but with a half set I would shoot worse scores than I do now. With a full set I regularly get under 105 and only rarely get 120 if I have bad luck.

I bought the best that money could buy on the basis that "If Arnold Palmer needed clubs like this then . . . . !"

I could hit the ball for miles; and saw parts of the courses I played that people hadn't visited for years.

I finally gave up when my bridge partner (a lady of advancing years) took me out one day and beat my by a country mile - and she couldn't hit a ball more than 60 yards, but in a very straight line!!!

I am gonna tell Wendy what you said -and if that don't persuade her to tell me to find 2nd hand Oyster I will bobble the tuning of tv and make her miss correr couple of times. That should help make decision. Ha ha
