New Profile Icons Added

Just in case you haven't already noticed, we have updated the icons within members profiles that sit beneath their avatars

Also we have changed the Online icon to match, we will trial it with the new icons and hopefully members will prefer these to the previous ones?

Can you explain what the reputation score means and how it is calculated? Sorry if I missed this through not paying attention.

The reputation has been switched on and we are still trying it out, members can now vote to the right of posts if they like a post or find it helpful with the + icon

I think there is a very loose link between "reputation" and whether people like your post.

What does this say to newcomers who have a very low reputation?

Is this a helpful addition and can it be abused? Please discuss.

Hello Bob

The purpose of the "Reputation" is just a way to acknowledge the post by way of a positive vote, if you feel the post is helpful then you can vote. The only way it can be abused is by members voting for each other to drive up each others votes.

We decided to introduce this instead of the previous "Points Received" as that never really served a purpose. Members as far as we are aware can not vote negative i.e. the - sign

Myself & CC spent over 4 hrs yesterday evening implementing this feature and bringing it to members, as we thought it was a good feature

it's just a way or recognizing helpful posters and was introduced as a result of Paulmolds query regarding the "Thanks" button in the feedback section.

It's in it's early stages only being introduced, we are hoping to replace the + & - signs with a thumb, so people can approve a post by clicking on the thumb

If members don't like this new feature it can be switched off?

Personally I don't see this as a problem, it's no different to having a "Low Post Count" ?

Seriously though if members wish to discuss this further, or just comment that they like / dislike this feature then as always we will listen

I still have my dislike of the word "reputation" used in this way, which to most people is not the same as "thanks" or "like".

Most other forums that I have used or viewed use the word "thanks" and that is clearly understood by all.

I also appreciate the work done by staff to maintain this site. However, it could be argued that it is more productive to consult before making complicated changes.

I am sorry if this sounds negative but it is one change I do not support.

Well let us see how it goes and give it a trial. I like the experimental attitude of this forum. - I am sure this was only added to help us out.

Have just added some coding to move the "Online" icon over to the left beneath the avatar, hopefully this Implementation will go down better than the reputation bar

Also we have replaced the "Up & Down" icons (in the bottom right corner of each post) for something more visually appealing and will hopefully assist those with poor visibility

Well I for one thinks it looks great the online icon under the avatar looks ace But then of course I am biased
Think it's a shame to lose the voting myself, but were all different and everybody is allowed their own say

A lot of work has gone into making these changes over the past couple of days, it's just nice to know if what we are doing is right or wrong?

We have now disabled the "Reputation" voting system

We had hoped to trial it longer, but we have had a member accidentally cast a negative vote when clicking on it by accident which is far from ideal
and we were unable to correct the vote, so in light of this we have decided to take it down.

When we introduced this system we only had the benefit of members in mind, so we are somewhat disappointed that it didn't quite go as expected.
There will also be no "Points", only "Post Counts" will show from now on. (unless changes in the future dictate otherwise)

Hopefully members will still approve of the other small changes implemented which I feel are a big improvement and enhance the look of the forum

It is easy for us standing on the sidelines to be critical whilst failing to acknowledge all of the hard work put in by yourself and the team.
