We're hoping to buy a motor home but as yet are so inexperienced we haven't even reached base camp on the learning curve. However we hope that after our visit to the NEC Motorhome & Campervan show next week some questions may have been answered; though I suspect that it will only show up how much more we have to learn.

Hello and asof_welcome2 from a sunny Leicestershire.

Good luck with your search, might be an idea, to think how you want to use it, i.e. visit out of the way places and very narrow lanes, or /as well as on the continent, with their motor home friendly roads and sites,  all helps to decide on size etc. when you look at them imagine you are  living in it, try shower, loo for size ( not actually rofl3 )as well as beds, comfort is a priority in my book, what will it be like in bad weather ? when stuck inside.
Also kitchen area, enough room and worktop to be comfortable .Depends how you want to use it to what is right for you.
Regards
Margaret

Hi  Welcome to the forum.

Yes ,look a many to see your favourite.  I am of the opinion that its best to hire one before buying.

Its expensive to change.

...And buy mags like MMM etc, studying and look at older vans, before being beguiled by the bright lights of the show... and make a wish list of priorities.... and refer to it!.....and take lots of pics when you go to look at vans, including videos with commentaries, because when you get back home, you'll never remember which was which!   help! ....and....and...and...  all confused Oh what exciting times!
...and...Good hunting!fingersx

Welcome to the forum. All the preceding posts give very sound advice. Every motorhome is a compromise: you can have very large, with absolutely every facility, or very small, minimalist. Both (and all in between) have their advantages and disadvantages - all mod cons v manoeuvrability & cost. So you really must think hard about who will be using it; where you'll be using it; and at what time of year. If you're coming to motorhome from camping, then a relatively small motorhome will seem like luxury: proper WC / shower / hot water / heating / etc etc.

Enjoy the excitement - and don't hesitate to ask on this excellent Forum!

Thanks for all your advice: hire one first, consider size and purpose, take lots of photos and try the facilities etc. I'm so grateful to you all. ...and not forgetting all the very impressive emoticons!

Hello Empty dont rush into it

Cymro is right , its all about priorities and compromise . I got my first motorhome this year but it took me a whole 12 months to decide what was right so dont go making hasty decisions . It's easy to be seduced by sparkly new ones .
I got a Sigma , end lounge was my priority , nothing too large as its all a bit daunting at first. Powerful enough engine to pull it .,
My compromise was I would have liked a garage and the bathrooms a bit small , but my main requirements are fulfilled
At least with A/S the quality is there , I saw a lot of cheap rubbish whilst looking.

Hi There,
Welcome to the Forum, the NEC Show is always a good place to see many vans all at one time and place.

Thanks again everyone for your support and advice. Bright sunny day here in Durham City and watching qualifying for Russian Grand Prix Sochi, a mug of coffee and a dog on my lap. What's not to like?
