It's nice to join such a helpful and friendly Forum such as this one obviously is.

Just a brief summary of where we have come from. My wife and I are both pretty experienced motor-vanners, having bought our first one in 1985 (but I am not suggesting that we know it all!). After several different purchases, which included an Autohomes version, we decided to buy a new Ford Transit diesel and convert it ourselves, in order to get exactly what we wanted. That was a serious conversion done to the highest possible standards but Ford let us down because, at that time, they failed to protect their vehicles from corrosion.

We travelled practically every part of France, sometimes twice a year, and had some wonderful trips. But then we had to give up and resorted to staying in hotels for several years! Don't do it!!!

So we now have a 2001 Autohomes Symbol. We can't travel abroad any more but we are looking forward to some good holidays and trips out in England. It may be getting elderly but it is a great little vehicle for what we want.

Best wishes to all.

Hi, and welcome to the forum wave
It's an Auto-Sleeper Symbol BTW not Autohomes smile!  and at 2001 it's quite a bit younger than mine.

Hi there,

Welcome from a warm but damp and dismal day in sud France! rainyday

I'm not sure why you "can't travel abroad any more" but if you can physically do it and want to do it then my advice is "DO IT"!  happy clapper happy clapper

Just remember that there is no age limit to stupidity!!  allthumbz allthumbz

Best regards,

Well, that's nice to get so many friendly replies to my initial posting. Many thanks to all.

Dutto asks why I ". . . can't travel to France any more". Regrettably, Dutto, I am no longer physically able to endure that long - but very enjoyable - trip to the sud (even if it is wet).

In latter years the south was always were we went and we had some wonderful French friends near Nimes where there is always an open door - and a game of petanque.

It's a very sad day when you can't do it any more but there it is - we have some wonderful memories.

Eric,

Sorry to hear that.

Even at 70 I know that 14 hour driving days are a thing of the past so I appreciate your problems.

Good luck in the future and maybe we will run into each other (not literally I hope) in the UK. up!

Best regards,
