Warwick XL - TV and MPPT Empty Warwick XL - TV and MPPT

Post by Mel-G Fri 10 Jan 2025 - 10:20

Hi

I am about to take delivery of a new Warwick XL and have been told by the supplier that they recommend not driving the van with the TV/Soundbar mounted and that I should take off the wall mount before driving! This is due to the fact (allegedly) that the TV/Soundbar will rip off from the wall. Is this true and has anyone mounted the TV/Soundbar unit 'more solidly.'

Another quick question - where is the MPPT located. I couldn't spot it when I went for a pre-delivery look at the van.

Looking forward to getting the new van!!

Regards.

Presuming the TV is intended to go on the wardrobe bulkhead facing aft (where the sockets are) then the mounting situation is not unlike our Kingham. Our TV is mounted on a fixed bracket which is bolted through that bulkhead with m6 bolts, penny washers under the nuts to spread the load, and it is fine. You could alternatively screw or bolt it through the 12mm plywood bulkhead into an 18mm plywood backing plate if you wanted even greater security. We had the same mounting arrangement in a caravan that got flat packed on the M5 and the TV and bracket were still in place on the bulkhead afterwards although the caravan had totally disintegrated.

Solar controller is integrated behind the power supply.

I put a big bit of wood in the wardrobe, under the TV booster and screwed the TV bracket into it to spread the load as I wasn't too sure how thick the wardrobe wall was.

Hi The Bargee - cheers for that. Yes it is mounted on the wardrobe wall. I think I will ask the supplier not to mount the TV and do it myself with a piece of plywood sandwiched inside the wardrobe between the fixing plate and bolts/washers.

Sorry to hear of your M5 smash. Hopefully the caravan was the only casualty.

Hi Dave Gee. That's very useful info. I trust that the van comes with supplied mounting TV bracket such as AVF?

Hi Paulmold - thanks for the info - that's why I couldn't spot it - I assume its the 10A Sargent job?

Cheers.

Exactly same here as The Bargee mentions, when we got ours last June, I just got them to leave bracket off, mainly because we ended up putting the 21” Avtex and bar we already had, fits nicely. It’s not the best bracket depending what height you want the TV, we leave ours on.
Yes the only place we’ve not checked yet is behind the PSU for the solar, got a victron to swap when go under there. Similar we’ve not come across the VM40 fuse unit, not at front in void or behind pillar, so expect to find that under there also, although have seen pictures of others fitted to that base wall under the bench with the DC & EHU charger
Hope this helps
Cheers

The EM 40/45/50 (depending on base vehicle) will always be close to the bottom of the 'B' Pillar which is where the interface between chassis and habitation electrics is located.

Peter,
Yes agreed, that was where expected but none of the new vans in dealers at time we go ours had it there, even the lads out the workshop weren’t sure. I checked in the void area where it used to be sat on behind seat, nothing, nothing behind the pillar moulding, I have seen photos of a someone’s new XL with it fitted under bench where I mentioned on the wardrobe wall, well past the old interface location. I’ll update when I finally go behind the PSU area.

In my Symbol it's mounted on the wardrobe wall, with just some large washers on the inside of the wardrobe to spread the load. And I have driven many thousands of miles with the TV and Soundbar mounted. But it's important to know the type of mount, because they aren't all the same. Some (like my Avtex AK12TM) lock firmly in a stowed position, and aren't going anywhere. But, I don't have the standard mount that came with the van, which looked pretty flimsy. I got the dealer to fit the Avtex one instead (at my expense).

Sometimes I do take it off, due to mechanical sympathy, when I'm travelling in areas with really poor cobbled road surfaces (e.g. eastern Germany still has some). If you take it off, then you need a soft case to put the TV in, which Avtex will also sell you of course. I have one, it's a bit expensive for what it is, but reasonable quality.

I think the reason you might not see them on unregistered vans is that the dealers fit them. That was the case when I bought mine, anyway.

I don't have a PVC but our EM40 is mounted next to the EC700 PSU under the o/s bench seat.  The Sargent solar controller was mounted out of sight beneath the EC700 PSU (I have since replaced it).  When I selected our TV, I went for the lightest (a 1.7 kg 12V 16 inch Cello + DVD) which allows it to be mounted permanently, in my case with wood screws into the bulkhead between the cab and main body.

I don't travel with the TV mounted but that's just our choice. Given we have a Neuvo, the TV bracket on ours is in a different place, I fitted it myself and made an aluminium plate matching the bracket fixing for the other side of the cabinet wall. Bolts and dome head nuts were used to secure it. It's unlikely that the TV would shift under normal driving, who knows what would happen should "unusual" forces be applied.

Well we did 13,000 miles last year with the TV mounted and all is fine!   up!

We have it angled so it is better viewable from both seats, and we just wedge in a piece of good foam between the wardrobe and the side of the TV to absorb any vibration and keep the fitting 'solid'.

I didn't use the bracket that came with the van (to be honest, I didn't even know there was a bracket stowed under the bench seat). I got a Vision Plus triple extension (although I only used 2 of the arms) hence the wood inside the wardrobe rather than just big washers to spread the load more.

In fairness, don't need to extend it too much, just enough to get to the back of the TV to plug USB sticks and a portable HDD and turn it so we can both see the screen.

Im assuming that wardrobe wall is used as booster etc are located inside the wardrobe. So my set up won't apply but it does for Duo not XL as our booster and aerial connections and power socket are inside overhead locker. I have the TV on a quick release bracket but always travel with it in place..
