Re: step switch
I still haven't solved this problem. But from another post I found on the web. Clive Mott of the MMM publication, states that the wiring goes through a relay connected to the fridge, I've checked the wiring diagram and it appears he's right. I've removed the fridge vents and there's a lot of wiring there, but I can't find a relay. Has anybody any idea where it may be located. Thanks in advance of any replies. (Merry Christmas all).

Re: step switch
I think you may find that the fridge/step relay is part of the EM40.
If the fridge works on dc with the engine running then the relay should be working for the step as well.

Re: step switch
If you have a Sargent EC325, 328, 500 or 700 the relays are in the EM 40/50 (dependant on the base vehicle). If MES or an earlier Sargent system they will be discrete relays, the step one near the door behind a fridge vent or under the oven and the fridge one possibly under the drivers seat - but no definitive answer.

Re: step switch
Thanks Peter, mine is an EM50 on the pillar behind the drivers seat, found the red relay, but without causing damage as is won't budge I tapped it a few times and the step is now working. I would like to find out how the relay comes out, just in case it fails again. thank you all for the advice.

Re: step switch
The relay is soldered direct to printed circuit board, if you are not experienced in fitting/removing components from such a board, do not try.
Sargent will repair or supply a replacement EM50. Apuljack electronics manufacture a more robust replacement unit www.apuljackelectronics.co.uk , it probably worth talking to both before deciding what to do.
