Corinium microwave
Hi can someone tell me what type of microwave the Corinium is currently fitted with?
Mines 800watts, I’m looking for one that’s 700watt but most don’t really fit well.

Replacing microwave
I’m not sure what is in the Corinium. I had a Daewoo in the Bourton that gave up the ghost. I replaced it with model from Asda..£40. The dimensions are published on their website. It was slightly smaller. It is manual rather digital. My microwave was held in place by 4x3cm screws accessed from below. I secured the new microwave again from below. The screws go into the base plate of the microwave. You just need the check that the new screws do not pierce the electronics that are underneath. There are not many electronics to avoid and are easily seen. I used 2 of tthe existing holes and drilled 2 new ones.

Cheers Lucas I’ve not looked at the Asda models yet.

Re: Corinium microwave
I got the Asda manual model, no problems since.

Thanks Paul, we actually prefer a manual type, much simpler.

Re: Corinium microwave
Think if I was to replace our microwave I’d go for the Dometic model Auto Sleeper currently fit, has no glass turntable but relies on a fixed ceramic plate, they also appear to fit quite securely from what I’ve seen, about £160 to buy I think.

They don't want to fit too well. Need a bit of air around them

Re: The screws go into the base plate of the microwave
This might be an issue but I can probably get round it because you cannot access the base plate screws on the microwave unless you remove the fridge first, my Daewoo is held in place with a strip of wood.
Having said that:
I like the Dometic model too but unfortunately it won’t fit unless I make some serious mods, and even then, it would be a very tight fit..
If there were feet on the Dometic microwave that can be removed, I might get it to fit in height wise and I could shave a bit of the sides
To enable it to fit.
You get the picture?
I believe that the Dometic model is designed to work more favourably with an inverter? Which is in fact why I’m searching for one, my current Daewoo model grumbles and cuts out under inverter conditions, drawing a high 110amp on initial start up…then drops to a modest 9/10 amps..

Re: Corinium microwave
That is one hell of a start up load. I would have expected 12 - 15 amps (+/- 3500 watts, but I have never measured. I have never seen a problem with microwaves running on good quality inverters of 1500 watts plus (which will usually supply much more than that output under momentary surge). The quality of the inverter, e.g. waveform, might also be part of the issue, and a cheap inverter can damage sensitive electronics.
It is a good point thought that the rated wattage of a microwave nears no resemblance to the inrush current when it fires up. I believe some models have soft start built in. You could wire in a soft start module either directly in front of your microwave socket or on the inverter output. However, I suspect that your microwave is faulty and/or your inverter is too small or not a clean enough waveform.

Re: Corinium microwave
Well, the specs of the inverter are a Sunshine Solar 2000W Pure sine with Soft start & 4000watt surge capability.
It’s a good make of reasonable capacity.
In addition it’s has switchable earth- Neutral bonding wiring.
Battery is a 300Amp Fogstar lithium with 50mm2 cables within 2 mtrs of the battery.
So all in not too shabby a setup.
I could agree that the initial amp draw is- or appears to be excessive!
There maybe several reasons for this.
1: microwave is pants
2: Cables could be larger….70mm2
2. Cables could be shorter, I can do this by swapping the kit around. Little.
However; the initial amperage draw is not completely unsurprising!
High though it is, it can be at least double, sometimes 2-1/2 times its running wattage, 800 watts for circa 10- 15 secs.
I think a 700Watt microwave will help certainly but ideally one that’s made to be compatible with an inverter.

Re: Corinium microwave
The Daewoo microwave is the brand that most people have problems with - the cutting out after 3 minutes or so is the main reason for changing brands. Is it possible that your only problem is the microwave..?

Re: Corinium microwave
Hi Paul; absolutely yes.
To be be fair, the MW is over 6 years old, never had an issue with it after I fitted 2 extractor fans behind it…but of course powering it through an inverter is another issue…
So changing it is a good option anyway, it’s just finding one that fits the space to be fair and the Asda one maybe a good choice, I’ll just have to pad it out to make sure it doesn’t rattle about.

Re: Corinium microwave
The inverter and cabling sound fine provided that the inverter is the pure sine wave type. You said 110 amps start up load, but now seem to be suggesting 2000 watts, 8 amps? Perhaps you meant the DC draw.
If the inverter works fine on EHU then I would check the inverter spec. carefully. Does the microwave make a different noise on inverter? If the inverter is not right then it may damage a new microwave in time.

Re: Corinium microwave
Yes I’m referring to the Dc draw….initial draw I.e. surge is circa 110amp for 15 sec, then falls to a moderate draw circa 8/10 amps.
I’m a little confused how you drew your conclusions from my message but it doesn’t matter.
As posted; it is a pure sine…not modified…though I’ve not tested it on an Ociloscope to check how stable it is…I’ll test it in due course.
you can’t assume pure sine in all scenarios.
These microwaves like a domestic AC supply.
