Hampshire Advice please water leak rear Empty Hampshire Advice please water leak rear

Post by daisy mae Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:26 am

Had hab check done this week on Hampshire, rear lounge , and was told that the floor underneath the OS rear bed in the rear corner under the van, was wet from  the bumper , told bed has to come out sounds a big job, which they say cannot do this until
next year as they are booked up, worried it is going to get worse, which through the winter it will do.

Has anyone had this and any advice very welcome.?

Also awning needs resealing screws, anyone taken this awning off?  it is 4 metres so I know it is heavy, advice needed there as well please.if possible.

Thank you so much for any help you can give.
Best regards,
Margaret

It appears that all service agents are booked up months ahead.

I suggest you put something like that linked below in the area of damp until its fixed.

I don`t think that would help Paul , it isn`t in the van but underneath, from the bumper runs underneath the van. I always have an oil heater in the van anyway,

Will have a look to see if there is a crack or something in bumper when it stops raining, and then put 3m waterproof tape on as short term measure.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Hi Margaret
Really sorry to hear about the damp in the van, it is so worrying water does so much damage. AS vans have lots of joints in them, filled with silicone, this drys out and cracks . wait for a day as dry as you can and go over the joints with fresh silicone as best you can to keep the water out , see if you can get it undercover as water does so much damage, especially to wall boards which are never the same after being wet

Thanks for reply  Alan,

but the damp is NOT inside the van, not from any of the joints, from bumper and the small area of the floor is wet underneath the van. as the hab guy told us. Will have a more thorough look as soon as.

We had a leak on the Nuevo Margaret, the Ingres came in via the rubberised expansion seal that starts from behind the cab and up and over the windows to the rear bumper.
Mark at Willersey ( when he was there) said this area was prone to leaking into the rear of the coach build vans , our Nuevo was an EK and was wet under the cooker and rear kitchen units.
It was rectified by removing the rear bumper, pealing up the outer skin, drying and reinstating
The area was dry inside after a weekend of blow drying.

Hi Margaret
I presume what you refer as the rear bumper, you mean the rear skirt. That is joined to the rest of the body by a silicone joint, there are also vertical joints these all need to be checked as these will allow water to get under the van due to capillary action

Sorry to hear about you’re damp problems Margret. I am going to check our back floor tomorrow but as far as I know our damp issue was only under the n/s locker door .  It caught me out because the previous check showed nothing for three years when the checks were done by the dealers we bought from.
It will be too far from you but we used Bardney Motors, near Lincoln for our repairs. They did the checks so it made sense for them to do the repairs. Hope you get things sorted.

Thank you so much, needs looking at but raining here, cannot get her undercover so hoping it doesn`t get much worse.

Brian has found someone not too far away from us and will contact them tomorrow.

Paul that seems feasible, no way do we want the electric bed taking out , extremely heavy, worried about damage to the van, I know from experience how AS build their vans and they are certainly not made to be taken apart,
seems rather OTT when there isn`t any wet or even damp under there.just under the van outside.

Wan`t very happy how the van was left after the hab check, electric ring on hob not switched off under the cooker, fire left on fan running with cold air,

Fitted an updated  TV aerial ,he  had to cut a hole in the wardrobe shelf, left all the bits and sawdust.didn`t fit a blanking plate over where the original aerial  was, so will need one, did ask him to bring one with him.

Lets put it this way wouldn`t have them again, anyway we shouldn`t be here by then.long gone we hope. lockdown isn`t helping .then again it is affecting everyone.

Thank you all again,
Take care,
Best regards,
Margaret

Without seeing you’re area of damp this may not be relevant but a friend of mine was an auto electrician for a motorhome company.  He had to repair wiring in the rear corner of a motorhome under warranty. Whilst he was carrying out the repairs he noticed the floor was damp under the water filler pipe. The hose clip on the filler pipe at the top was missing.
Quality control missed that one on the PDI check. Long term that could have caused a lot of problems.

Margaret

Sorry to mislead you Margret. Being the same internal layout as the Rienza I thought the filler point would be in the same place, R/H rear corner.
I still havnt had a look at ours because its cold grey and damp outdoors so not good for crawling under vans. Hopefully you will get a better outcome from another repairer. Two different views are worth it some times.
