Old Hartley C&M site Empty Old Hartley C&M site

Post by Neil & Amanda Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:12 am

Just got back from the Old Hartley site.

Mens facilities closed & only 1 person (or family) allowed in the ladies (unisex) toilet/shower block at a time.

Still wanted the full price though. If I had known I wouldn't have gone.

The reason the gents was closed was the fact that the water taps were near the gents entrance. They could have added another water site or adjusted the railings & added steps up to the taps....

Not impressed censored!

We have been to three CAMC sites with closed facilities and no reduction in fees. Even if facilities had been open, we wouldn't have used them. We are going to Old Hartley in September along with two other CAMC sites in the North-East.

The 3 previous C&MC sites had reduced facilities, but not only 1 person at a time.
Our van is 22 this year, the shower is dated to say the least. That's why we use the club sites. Good job it was not freezing in the ques.

My view is that sites use the Covid19 excuse to close facilities and therefore have little cleaning to do. Whistle1
There are lots of ways around this lockdown ,but many sites and pubs are not prepared to do this.
The ones shut now are not going to open in the winter.

Are we the only ones who are staying put until this Virus is sorted and just resorting to days out?

We oldies have put things on hold, IMHO just not worth the risk or bother.

Staying put ourselves too, even limited our away days out to Filey, last visits there weren't enjoyable due to overcrowding.
At our last visit,The gents showeroom/ w/cs at Old Hartley was  abit run down and tattie, hopefully the warden will take this opportunity to upgrade them.
I don't know if the none use of awning policy still exists there ?
Have a nice time, best pitches ( IMO) along the back next to the wall, almost level with good views.

No better way to self-isolate. We have no intention to eat out and we avoid crowded town centres. I see no more risk than staying home.

I agree with Paul in that we now mostly use CLs or ASOC rallies occasionally a CCC or CMC site

At the present time only using the motorhome facilities and most certainly keeping away from towns of crowded areas.

Wherever possible taking food with us.

Garlieston CMC site worked fine.
All faucilities open all be it, 'one in one out', with one  'token band' in disinfectant by toilet doors so if no token, it was in use. Full breifing on booking in with paper copys, worked well as were the single warden couple!!
site very busy as can be seen from the CMC  web booking site.

Judge from this thread many are going camping. My experience in France last month was positive. Every site had doors on the toilets
and plenty of hand washing facilities. up! Some restriction on shower open hours confused3.

Stayed at 6 different sites + 1 aire. That was Wissant which is crowded as it is free. Could be a night stop if desperate.

We are at Old Hartley now. Toilet/showers working fine with 2 people allied in each using rubber band system. We are not using them.
Talking to warden today, site was due for refurbishment next year, the it was postponed until 2027 , now suddenly visitors are coming Friday to inspect site with respect to upgrading next year again. Small site by comparison to most club sites, only 50 pitches. I jokingly said they needed a tap at bottom of site as the three taps (including motorhome point) are all at top end but he said they could easily put one in now but it needed a pumping system to bring the waste up and this is to be done at the refurbishment. Great views out to sea with coastal path going along in front of the fence and St. Mary's lighthouse in front accessible via causeway in-between tides.
Only one other AS on site, a Corinium Duo. Not seen them to speak to.  We leave tomorrow for River Breamish site.

Ayr Cragie Gardens is doing a lot of business with the toilets rubber band system working well.
BUT we were told that its future is in doubt 'cos the renewal of lease is causing problems, with the council apparently only offering a limited tenure thus making improvements to the site unlikely.
