Adaptors for on board LPG tank.
Can you please point me in the right direction to buy adaptors for filling my on board gas tank. Hoping to take first trip to France soon, but will also be hoping to travel further afield in the future. There were some universal sets of adaptors on Amazon that were well rated, but they are all currently unavailable. Any suggestions re best buy would be appreciated.

Unless you plan to travel widely in Europe, you do not need adapters (plural) at all. You will only need this one,

which simply screws onto your existing fill point, and actually makes the filling process a lot easier. The filler gun for this dish type adapter just pushes up against it, and when you pull the trigger four little claws come out and grab the rim of the dish. Much easier than the UK version.

Agree that is what you need. Only problem I found in Provence was finding a gas supply, saying that some Toll road services had gas at a premium, that is if you use such roads.
There are apps which show stations, but some are few and far apart and are either closed down or run out!

Yes - Paul is spot on. Don't waste money on a set when you are likely only to need one.
I would suggest you don't buy one from eBay. A friend did and it was no use. Couldn't get a good seal however much he fiddled.
These people are 100% reliable, and as cheap as most.

This is the website you need to find GPL stations in France.

Thanks everyone. I did a search before asking, but nothing came up. Clearly didn't ask the right question. Can you post a link to the previous post please.

This does miss a rather large chunk of Western Europe quite often visited, Germany, Austria & Chezchia (or Czech Republic as everybody still calls it) so you may eventually need a second adaptor. However, in general the filling stations want to sell you fuel and not have you drive off to the next station so many will have adaptors for people to borrow.Paulmold wrote:

Re: Adaptors for on board LPG tank.
Dbroada is absolutely correct but we once needed LPG in Germany, we had an adapter so no big deal (I don’t know if the station had an adapter, I had no need to ask).
Anyway, after spending £55k on a van and £8k on extras, another tenner on gas adapters is no big deal.

Spot on Dave, which is precisely why I dug out a comprehensive list of the countries which use the dish adapter.dbroada wrote:This does miss a rather large chunk of Western Europe quite often visited, Germany, Austria & Chezchia (or Czech Republic as everybody still calls it) so you may eventually need a second adaptor. I guess many, if not most members, would either pass through Germany and Austria, or spend no more than a week or two within the borders. In that case they need not be concerned about getting a second adapter as they could easily top up in France before crossing the border.
There's an awful lot of confusion about Autogas adapters (and how to cope if using Calor cylinders) and information about the best solutions is not always readily available.
I don't think we have a Factsheet covering this topic. Would it be useful to have one do you think?

It does come up often enough to warrant one.Gromit wrote:I don't think we have a Factsheet covering this topic. Would it be useful to have one do you think?

Re: Adaptors for on board LPG tank.
Might just as well spend the extra tenner and buy all three. There is no guarantee that every gas retailer in any country uses the same filling system. Been travelling around euroupe for years with a set of 3 in a pink bag (from ebay!). Never had the wrong one. Just don't try buying lpg in Denmark. There are only 4 listed stations and recently 2 were "empty".
P.s.
This is the set I have.

Hint taken (thanks to you and Stewpotch) and link added to the bottom of the factsheet . . . cheaper than yours too.

I used mine adaptor this year in France very easy to use though I had to show my passport before they would let me fill the tank .I agree the app is very useful to find a service centre that has gas.
