Anti-slip step tape renewal
6 years on and the anti-slip tape applied to the drivers and passenger steps of my Worcester is looking distinctly tatty. It has obviously become brittle as every time it is cleaned another bit flakes off.
Having acquired some of the correct replacement self-adhesive tape from AS Spares (great service but at an eye watering price), the question now is how best to remove the old tape without doing damage to the glass fibre step.
Has anyone already done this and could proffer any pearls of wisdom please?
Many thanks as always.
Graham

I used a Stanley glass scraper and cleaned it of with methylated spirits. Also I used skate board grip tape , great job 2years ago and still looks good .

Re: Anti-slip step tape renewal
I know you have already purchased strips from AS, but we bought small purpose made universal rectangles of dark grey carpet from a stand at The Peterborough Show. They have useless Velcro type strips on the back, so to keep them in position I screwed them to the step with the three existing screws and washers in the metal bulkhead. If I remember, they were £5 a pair, have a good foot grip and are easy to keep clean. I purchase a second pair last year as a backup.

Just out of interest; Halfrauds sell rolls of anti slip tape, 2" wide I think and a reasonable price.

Re: Anti-slip step tape renewal
Thanks Paul, Pete and Jaycee for your suggestions.
I think that I will leave the job until we have a heat wave - it might soften the glue a little. There again it could be a long wait up here in the Dales!
Regards Graham

Hi Graham, you could use a hairdryer to soften it up. Regards Paul.

Re: Anti-slip step tape renewal
Resurrecting this old thread, considering the options now to renew the step grip on our worcester, will check out the skateboard tape and from my old yacht renovation days look at decking grip but anyone have any other ideas please. Haven't tried AS but the stuff they use is pretty poor quality anyway.

Re: Anti-slip step tape renewal
Within a couple of months of fitting the eye watering AS anti-slip tape it started flaking off at various points, so quite agree that the quality is as poor as the price is high.
Suggest you look around at the other possible sources, I decided just to stop looking at it!

How about a more permanent solution GH, going back to your boatie days...
Clean the step to bare metal, apply appropriate colour West Epoxy to it and when just caramel like sprinkle with some nice clean sand.....

……….. and the sand treatment works almost as well with any gloss paint. You can sprinkle the sand on copiously, then sweep off the residue once the paint has dried and put one more coat of paint over the top.
The sand must be dry. Either bake some or buy budgie sand from the pet shop.

Nice idea the step is GRP by the way, not fitted now on the later winchcombe, guess it was dropped on a cost basis
