Water pump. Empty Water pump.

On my Symphony the water pump was working well as the winter approached,the van was laid up for 3 1/2 months and we are getting her ready for the season but water pump is working intermittently, sometimes just a little gentle tap on the pump helps it to burst into life.. do you think this will improve with fuse or will I need to get a new pump ??
