Re: britstop
Our 2017 Britstop guide thumped on the floor through the letterbox today, looks like a few more places than last one. Guess that's why it made such a thump.

Re: britstop
Mine also dropped on the mat today, my first one, impressed. It came at the same time as a renewal reminder for the C&CC, which I won't be doing.

Re: britstop
I have thought of buying one since I first read about Britstops, just wondering, how many stopping places other than pubs are in this year's?

Re: britstop
There are farm shops in Kent and a farm Zoo in Somerset and a Canal side shop in the midlands, to name the ones we have used very happily. They are not all exclusively pubs although obviously a lot of Pubs are ideal locations.

We will be stopping at as many Britstop pubs as possible when we hit the high road. May try a couple out around the area here, any excuse for a pint and a wee harf.Askit wrote:Why would anyone want to go to stay at a place that is not a pub

Just been out and about in the Yorkshire Dales, stayed at two Britstops, warm welcome, nice cosy pubs with good food and of course Black Sheep. At the Lamb Inn Rainton tonight, Black Sheep and a nice meal in about 20 minutes . G&T for swmbo .

Re: britstop
We've used Britstops on a number of occasions and echo the comments raised by others; a very friendly welcome, locals interested in the van/where you are from and good food/excellent beer. Hence we thoroughly recommend. I would say approx 80% pubs, the rest farm shops, garden centres and it seems an increasing number of (presumably) local authority owned carparks in smaller towns etc. Well worth the cost of subscription.

Re: britstop
Yep, well worth buying the book and joining. As we've only had the book a week we've not had chance to stay at any of the places, but we have planned out several routes for the near future. Yes, there are lots of pubs, and if brings them more trade and helps prevent them from closing down I'm all for it.
The only downside I can see is it may become a victim of it's own success, pubs in more popular areas may find their carparks beginning to resemble the most popular aires on the continent, wheel to wheel motorhomes! Which may put off other customers.
I know they limit the numbers in the book, but lots are accepting 5, and if they're all 8m long that's a lot of motorhome...

Re: britstop
Im currently staying at a Britstop in South West Wales, not a pub but a farm with a cow barn converted into an ice cream and pizza parlour. Friendly and the ice cream made from their own on farm cows is just WOW and the Pizza was pretty damm good as well, OK Its not a pub but we managed adequately with a bottle of the house wine. :) Very pleasant evening and some rather amusing books to read while your waiting.
