Split Charging 240v Empty Split Charging 240v

Post by Frank.Hatfull Sun Nov 08, 2015 8:58 am

Hi
Does any body know if the 240v battery charger also charges the engine start battery?
It would be useful if it did, when we leave the motorhome standing for a few months.
On our boat it does not and I had to fit a separate trickle charger.
Many thanks
Frank and Mandy

The Sargent unit will charge the vehicle battery but defaults to the Hab battery. You must manually switch at the control panel. Many fit a Battery Master which does this automatically.

I'm guessing your van has a Sargent PSU2007. In standard trim, on hook up it can charge either the leisure battery or the vehicle battery but not both together. On the control panel their is a cluster of 4 buttons to the left. The top right button selects the vehicle battery.

Is is possible to add a 'Battery Master' that will charge the vehicle battery from the leisure battery but is not wise to leave either battery on charge but off load for more than a week or so at a time as the battery will dry out and become irreparably damaged.

Hello Frank, we have the same van, 2008 Devon. When you switch on the panel you get a row of touch sensitive switches along the bottom, one of which is labelled hab for the habitation battery. Pressing this switch will toggle between the vehicle battery and the habitation battery and the selected battery will then be charged.
Cheers, Willy

My apologies: I have a mental block in recognising the Devon as a Nuevo badged by Marquis.

For a couple of years they had the MES power system with a discrete charger and controller as described in the previous post.

The handbook for the Devon should have details of that system but if you don't have it, send me an e-mail with your own mail address and I'll send the MES instructions.
