Smokers Fag ends

Why do smokers think it is ok to extinguish their cigarettes on the ground? We recently stayed at a local Caravan Club Site and I was appalled at the amount of cigarette butts discarded on the hardstanding.

Now my vice is that I like a drink or two especially when motor homing. What would people think if I left my empty Peroni bottles on the pitch?

I agree entirely and it is a sign of modern times!!! 

When I was a young lad we used to take our dog-ends home with us ....  

.... where we would re-roll them to smoke for a nicotine and tar hit that made our heads spin!   

A much greater curse than cigarette ends is chewing gum!   

Cigarette ends degrade and disappear with a bit of rain .... 

.... but chewing gum lurks for months waiting for that sunny day when it can stick to your shoe and transfer itself to your best carpet!   

The one good thing about Singapore was that chewing gum was a "banned substance" .... 

.... but even there "Big Business" has got the law repealed!

Disgusting habit is dropping butts !

All this talk of fags and butts I hope there are no Americans reading this thread they will get the wrong idea!

I know its a universal problem, but the last time I stayed on a CC site (several years ago) I was absolutely gobsmacked to see the old guy from the caravan opposite polish his dashboard with a cloth, then empty the contents of his (very full) car ashtray onto the chippings on the pitch. Then he got out and ground them into the gravel with his slippered foot. His wife was hoovering the awning at the time. That was only one of several incidents which made me say 'never again!'
I'd rather take my chances wild camping, at least then you can move on at no cost if you're not happy.

Yup... One of my many pet hates.

Arrived on a lovely grass pitch in the Vendee a few weeks ago and I must have picked up 40 or more, as much because I didn't want the next occupants to think they were mine.

Cigarette butts are nasty but dropping them is not the only anti-social thing that some smokers do. If they think smoking is such a good thing why don't they do it in the comfort of their own vans ? You can bet your life that at any aire or campsite we find outselves parked right next to a smoker who always stands and has his regular hourly fix outside our door or windows.  I really hate the smell of cigarette smoke: the smell lingers in clothes and furnishings as well as making me cough and wheeze. 

A good friend of mine, in days long gone, got so fed up with a smoker sitting close to her in the cinema ( days very long gone !) that she gave him a good long blast of Chanel no. 5.  I have been tempted to do the same with a can of air freshener.
